I just checked that entry on Princevault and I believe this is that in house cassette. They also say that the Crystal Ball album was to be credited to Camille. This is the first time i've read that.

If I remember correctly, Crystal Ball was to be credited to Camille, hence the ambiguous picture of Prince on the album cover and of course the SOTT single photo with Cat. __________________________________________________

This is incredible! Thank you for creating this music, I'm constantly blown away by Prince, even after all these years of following his trail of music there are still new discoveries to be made. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

of course they did, that's what the bootleggers do.... Prince 4Ever.

Is this really a new source and not just a lot of excitement for a "clean-up" job?

i have no idea since only listened to it once. But others are saying they are hearinga little more detail on some tracks and there is the slightest difference on some of the tracks who do comparisons. They believe it is direct from the cassette which is a possibillity so exactly as prince intended. So if your a fan of this era its worth getting as music is very good as you already know and is is in the order it was going to be in. [Edited 3/14/15 5:58am]

I always thought the Pimpsandwich version was excellent (as is their DreamFactory release).
Has anyone compared that to this release? Any views on which is better?
Also am I right in assuming that The Flesh is the one that was leaked late last year?

Like mentioned above, you will be able to catch the differences between this and sott if you're a fan of this era. This doesn't sound fan made. If it is, they did an amazing job making it seem like the cassette version of CB. I can hear tape hiss.. minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

i like the slighlty rough sound it gives it more of an underground feel.

Me too!! I really couldn't enjoy a self-made version of it because of the different sonic textures.

After listening again. I think i needed to turn it up abit loader. And the release is very clear. There is nice puch and kick to the songs. M better than dream factory Sab CD. You can hear every detail of the songs. If you are a fan I recommend it as it's very clear. clearer than the official sott release and it is the exact vision as it was intended. Forgive my lukewarm initial reaction. I just was not too excited at first as heard most of songs before. They can maybe eradicate a little bit of crackle and there is some hiss that is holding it back and then it would be spot on.

You're getting me excited. I'll have to track this down when I get a chance. It's my favorite era after the Gold/Come/Chaos years.

"After".....oh Lord! | |

What really blew me away listening to this was the very short intro to "The Ball" which has never surfaced before. Why it's interesting to me is kinda explains the ending of "Rockhard". The "what kinda fuck ending" fade out part. "Rockhard" is the last track on Lp 2 Side 1, so when you flip over to side 2, that small piece before "The Ball" sounds like kinda the same musical idea. I was always under the impression that the "What kinda fuck ending was that" was meant to describe more the ending of the "Black Album" more so than the song itself.

There are a few little problems there is some crackle on the songs like the cross adore etc And an hiss on Dorothy parker. So some improvements can be made However still a nice kick and puch to it all with princes vocal clear and you can hear the instruments well. It sounds like it may will be a new source like a cassette. If they just could eradicate the few niggles. [Edited 3/14/15 11:57am]

I really like that intro, the reversed guitar and Prince's almost nasty little laugh.

it is about time one of the original Rave Configurations got out. Maybe whoever had this tape also has that. I know claims have been made by some to have it.

this release is truly amazing. i think i like the old tape sound better then the offical sign ''o'' the times release. it's amazing to have the ball in this quality after all these years. i can't stop playing it! this will be in rotation for a long time!

The one I found was flac don't know if this is how it was released or if someone pointlessly converted it from mp3 if that's what is widely circulating. Sadly, link dead now. RIP

A stupid question but is this a bootleg? If not, how was it legally allowed to be released.
