"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Great to hear it, I pretty much agree with MC and Playa. Toejam really loves it and Captain is a little less sold. He is not really a fan of the sexualised stuff is he? . But on reflection I agree, Lady Cab Driver and International Lover are a bit cheesy and cringeworthy. I do really like Free and Automatic. Both great jams. . Its my second favourite of the official albums, being behind of Sign o the Times and Parade and my mark for it was 9.5/10. The first three songs are truly God like, and the rest is pretty amazing too. Of the sexualised stuff, Lets Pretend were married is the best, that song is just hilarious and filthy all in one. . Captain's mismash of the lyrics is hilarious (I want to fuck you martian) and Toejams love is refreshing
Thats enough listening to reviews, I need to listen to that album again especially "Lets Pretend we're married" [Edited 2/15/15 14:15pm] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

10 out of 10, no doubt! 1999, LRC, DMSR, A, LCD, and ATCLYINY are slammin. Amazing. Brilliant. Funky. Catchy. Sexy. Attitude. IL is a little bit cheesy. I don't think it's a joke song like a couple of you guys do. Sure, he's joking around a bit, but he's also serious. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Good stuff guys! "International Lover" was originally written with The Time in mind, which explains the comedic elements some listeners might take away from it. Personally, I think he injects humor into a lot of his sexually explicit ballads, but that's probably just me lol

Listening to that album, loud and alone, its clearly obvious you guys missed one big point about it. . How energetic he sounds, you can hear himthrowing everything into each song, the amount of sheer life from songs like DMSR, 1999 and Automatic are incredible. Compare that to his recent records, where he sounds like he is barely there in some of the vocals. Here its like his Mouth is wide open and he is waving his hands from side to side in every breath. . It's got so much more life that any other album, even SOTT, its like he sounds wearied about the problems of the world. Even the funk has a wisdom like feel to it, here its youthful exuberance and energy and it comes through in the grooves. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Anxious to listen to it. 1999 is still my favorite Prince album. I don't see what's so bad about "Free", "International Lover" and certainly "Lady Cab Driver". The first two seem like perfectly executed Prince ballad/cheese and the the third is a classic funk track with a banging bottom end. .
I love this record to death.

The wind in Free, I always took as a nuclear wind, which brings the song back to the title track themes. [Edited 2/26/15 5:13am]

Great review guys!
I had a hard time hearing what Captain said about Automatic. Each to his own.

Nice one - nothing to add from me - excellent review. Still can't get over Captain - being the funny bone of the crew - not getting that Princes' tongue was never more firmly in cheek than on "International Lover"!!
