Dayum! Don't Play Me is just fantastic For some reason Don't Play Me has only just clicked with me. The lyrics, the feel, the delivery is just amazing. The lyrics especially though. I love self aware, personal Prince (like Old Friend 4 Sale).
Anyone else think this song is fantastic? [Edited 3/5/15 13:20pm] I got two sides... and they're both friends.

May be the best song from the Truth.

The best song on the truth is 'Dionne'!
Hands down... | |

The Truth, the title song is underrated, really a great song.. Prince 4Ever.

Haven't played this in a long time, but these lyrics sound current.

Totally agree, took me by surprise. The lyrics are what really made me start this thread. Brilliant. I got two sides... and they're both friends.

I LOVE this song. It's kind of haunting in the same sort of vein that 'Papa' is to me. Like, I'm not sure if there is a video for this song (probably not because I believe it's a b-side) but if there was I can imagine it being in black and white and dimly lit. I love the little melody that the (piano? thing?? Could be some form of string instrument? I can't pinpoint what the actual instrument is because I'm stupid) plays about half way through every so often. It just puts the icing on the cake.

Hell yes, it is... and the whole album is amazing. "He's a musician's musician..."

Amazing song. Amazing album. It's sad that so few people ever got to hear it. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

One of my all time favourites, period. I mean from anyone. I was on to it straight away. It made the whole crystal ball package worth every penny. There was a kind of public performance where he played it quite hard, finished it abruptly, threw the guitar over his shoulder n walked out. I don't think he was in the mood. Lol. Somebody else must remember it. No? small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I don't rate The Truth at all, very boring album in my opinion. The only song that I like on that one is Animal Kingdom (minus the lyrics). RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Webby Awards I think. Great performance, low how raw and un-showy it is, Prince just wanders up does his thing and leaves. Love the song too, some of P's best lyrics. Hundalasiliah!

sigh...remember when being "over 30" seemed old?

I remember. It was a press conference of sorts if I recall correctly. Gret track. The first 2 tracks on this record are amongst the strongest he's even done. I don't think the rest of the album holds up to the starndards set by those two but it's not bad. I listened to "Come Back" the day my father died and cried like a child.

Oh god. I just realized I'm the age Prince was when he recorded that song. Fuuuuuck. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Oh god. I just realized I'm the age Prince was when he recorded that song. Fuuuuuck. I had such a traumatic youth, I didn't think I'd make 23. Lol, now I'm almost twice that age, oblivious to it but with a supply people who remind me. Stay wild but not dumb. small circles, big wheels!

Another example of why the Truth is a Prince masterpiece that almost everyone slept on.

Releases like those showed the true brilliance of Prince as a musician and composer. He was independent to make something that record companies would not welcome and distributed them directly to his most loyal fans who deserve and appreciate the eclectic nature of his genius the most.

I agree. I remember several Org members posting that they would love it if Prince would release an acoustic album. I believe he heard (or read) their request. I also believe Prince is cool that way and we should all better appreciate his output. klick

I like how the radio dial noise and static kind of interrupt the song....showing radio having a bad effect on his music, kind of 'cramping his style,' if u will. And then u see him in later occasions cateringnto radio with no avail. Sometimes his hypocrisy is endearing. Shunning acceptance only cuz he wants it so desperately.

Indeed. Everyone I know who saw the acoustic set on the Muslicology tour said the same thing and was blown away. He should do an acoustic set on every tour.
