I'm curious how much footage was left out of the final cut (apart from what's floating about).

Same, I really want to know what was supposed to happen. Maybe the storyline would of made more sense with the scenes that got cut out put back in?

.
Well I have collected photos and articles from way back in the early 80s when I became a hardcore fan. I remember buying a magazine that would cost $6 dollars just for a photo of Prince/ the Revolution, Sheila e etc . I gather my info over time, I have stuff stored online privately, I keep updating, a lot of fans of Prince and friends who know I a huge fan share stuff with me etc . There are other fans who have info online quote from them when I do use their stuff. I retype from articles or books, interviews etc

I'm not sure if that would make any difference, or sense Personally speaking, I like the look and feel of it. Almost always night & and all that neon - kinda like Gotham City.
What I'd like to see is ALL the usable footage put in the hands of profesionals!!

Same, thats why the movie is my favourite Prince movie. The atmosphere of it is really cool, the colour scheme too (if that makes sense) works great. Like, theres a lot of blues and subdued greys in the kids club and more redish pink in Morris's. Without trying to get all philosophical it, it just works really well because they reflect each character's personality off really well. The Kid is funnily enough- blue and melancholy for a good portion of the movie because of his dads death and stuff and Morris is very firey and wants his money. Even if the lighting colours weren't done on purpose it's still a clever trick.

Yeah It was shot sorta the same way of SOTT all in studio, which wasn't as much an issue, I think it's the story line for me overall. But yeah the look reminds me of the smokey neon lights of 1999 the dark streets of Purple Rain(movie) and the overload of color in studio of SOTT(the movie)

Yes, the film is set and stage. There's very few (if any) outside/location shots, even the outside bridge shots and the Glam Slam shot above are set. The production design is very similar to the early 90's set/stage stuff like TMNT and Batman (even though these still contain location shoots). I personally like the style of these films. I still remember sitting on the floor of my bedroom watching this for the first time on VHS in 1991 or 2 I think. [Edited 4/1/15 1:37am]

It was funny, the way he dropped that pen. What?

Yep, you can see he difference, the 1st one is a fake outside scene, the 2nd is a real outside scene

The original painting that was later used for the Graffiti Bridge Soundtrack. Courtesy of Steve Parke
The Graffiti Bridge album cover actually arose out of my figuring, "I've got to get a job." I'd connected with Prince on the Lovesexy Tour and I was getting bit and pieces of work here and there. But, I hadn't solidified anything. I said well, that was cool, that was a nice ride, time to move on to the next thing. One of the things I was trying to do with that painting-- before it got associated with Graffiti Bridge-- (was that) I had a connection with Prince, so, I might as well put Prince in it. I thought if Prince is going to see this, I thought what hasn't he done? What hasn't been a theme in what he's done?
I just thought of a lot of cool elements that I thought would go well into it. The weird part was (later) seeing all these elements in the movie. I had no idea. Nobody gave me a script. I was kind of on the same page with him at that time. It was weird.
I sent it off to my friend Levi, who had been showing Prince my work for a while. I sent a transparency, I didn't send the actual painting. The actual painting is double the size, like an big-fold album cover. I just randomly chose that size.
Levi said "You know, Prince has got that transparency sitting at his desk... He kind of looks at it every day." I said "Huh? Okay, well that's good." He said "I think he might want to use it or something." That's what ended up happening.
Prince called me up at one point and told me how much he liked it, which was really cool. The biggest thing was I had to add some things in (the painting): I had to add Morris Day and I had to add Ingrid Chavez. It was just at the edge of digital, so, I literally had to take sandpaper to the painting surface and sandpaper out some of the stuff I had already put in. It wasn't a big deal, it was just background.
I had to get Day and Chavez back into it. I had to make the black and white girl look a little bit more like Jill Jones, but, it wasn't originally set up to be Jill Jones. It was interesting. Prince changed his jacket from red to black on the cover.
The process for that was as weird as it could be. It was not somebody calling me up and saying "Hey, I want you to do this." I did it and it ended up being used. I was beside myself, to say the least. What a strange way for that to work out, but, I'm certainly not ungrateful.
I always think you can work real hard towards a goal and there are certain of things going on to make it work for you. I feel like all the stars aligned properly for that to happen. Whatever stars those were, I'm happy they aligned. I know I heard back from Levi pretty quickly that Prince kept looking at it (the painting). Maybe I was not aware, but, (the film "Graffiti Bridge") may have been in production at that time. Eventually, I did become aware of it, because, obviously (they said) we'd like this for the movie soundtrack. I don't know where it quite fell into line, but, it must have been in pre-production, because, they knew who was in the cast.

Ha! Totally true, I was relying on memory, but these look more stage than I rememeber. There's definately an atmosphere in location shoot that can't be captured on a stage.

This one reminds more old Star Trek planet settings or a school stage backdrop Yes something freeing about the natural atmosphere:Purple Rain, Under the Cherry Moon. I think if he made it more like SOTT with a little more story it the studio setting would have worked.

Absolutely not, the song is very similar to the version on CW, pre-The Time (full band), which itself was a reworking of the original 1983 recording. The track, as all 5 Prince tracks on Pandemonium, was recorded by Prince. The band only remixed/overdubbed/edited the 5 Prince songs (to more or less extent: for example Jerk Out was severely reworked while Chocolate or Donald Trump were left almost intact) when they took control of the project. It's pretty obvious when u listen to the demos and compare them to the released versions. [Edited 3/18/15 13:56pm] Has Prince's version of Jerk Out ever been in circulation? . I'm obviously not asking for it, I'm just curious as I've only ever come across Mazarati's version (as well as The Time's)
