it is a good show. i wish a full gold experience tour from wembley show would drop in that kind of quality. You have to take into account the revolution who back him up have been bettered though by other muscians he as used . His song writting was better back then with wendy and lisa. So for me album wise with wendy and lisa he was better but showwise he seems to have put in improved performances since then.

Yep. This one's easily the best. Not even best boot but better than many of his albums. 2nd best boot for me is the live soundboard from Miami '95. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Thank you for the pointers. I have not heard either of those in full although I did catch some vids from Montreaux 2009. They were stellar. Loved the redo of LRC [Edited 3/7/15 10:42am]

The birthday show from the soundboard is incredible, no doubt about it. If I had to pick another soundboard recording that could be labeled as "recent" that I think comes remotely close to the birthday show, I'd nominate Montreaux 2009. Prince's guitar work, Blackwell on drums - best show I've heard him do in the last six years. Montreaux 2013, even the soundboard version, is just an overblown mess. One of his sickest live moments ever IMO. He should have done some time for that shit. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Have to agree with everyone saying that BrownMark does a great job on this. Would have liked them to play something other than OD/RG though. The wooh is on the one!

I do like 84 birthday show but i like other shows better .That 84 shows stands and falls on princes own performance which is admittedly great though. For me prince is still good live and Amsterdam ziggerdome 2014 is probably my favourite and definately does rival these performances.. Even though only audience recording it is crystal clear.Xenophobia 2002 & Miami 95 are good also.

Montreux 2009 is excellent; nice to have the video of it, too. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

ziggodome does not compete with it . it beats it easily. the recording is very clear for audience recording and i would take it over night before reign every day of the week .I honestly believe ziggodome 2014 was a better show. The revolution band he had were probably his worst in terms of musicianship. His band from gold experience era michael b sonny t etc were miles better. Also the revolution got better around sott era with sheila e and eric leeds added He does play a unusual setlist and same with small club and i feel these are only rated so high because of this. Its still a great release and from that era this and the benefit show are the the most interesting
if you were talking albums no way does is rescent albums compete with purple rain. But if he put days of wild back on gold experience i would prefer that to purple rain even though it flopped.
[Edited 3/7/15 2:50am] [Edited 3/7/15 2:57am] [Edited 3/7/15 3:27am] I couldnt agree less with Master. When i listen to reign and other music (bootlegs, concerts or even regular lps) and i compare that with the music he has been producing the last 10 years, it just makes me sad and i want a timewarp. Back to my first ahoy 86 concert where the band and concerts were well rehearsed and the show was tight.

Prince barely plays any instruments on parade tour but gives an energetic live performance. His backing musicians Wendy Lisa bobby z are good but they are not of the class of the later musicians. So when just listening to audio release it does not sound as good that is all. I enjoy the spotaneaty more than a rigid well rehearsed show. [Edited 3/8/15 3:44am] [Edited 3/8/15 6:34am]
