Montreux Jazz Festival 2009, Love it!!! Decided last night to watch Prince performing at the 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival. Wow is all I can say. He had everything going on right. His band with John Blackwell on the drums, Renato Neto on keys, and Rhonda on the bass. He looked great and was in a great mood. The music was tight!

Blu-Ray? I though we had rather crappy quality DVD rips? Did these leak in HD or something?

Ok let me clarify it's probably a very good DVD. Not crappy at all. The sound is amazing and picture is very good. I apoligize if I went overboard. I was just excited at watching it last night.

Very good show. I like the stripped down, 4 peice band feel of it. Some have said it is kinda boring just watching Prince stand there with a guitar, but I like it. Show 1 does tail off into a bit of an anti climax though. Show 2 is fantastic however. Its amazing how much energy a guy can extract from a crowd by just standing there with a guitar. How awesome is All the Critics?

These are a joy to watch, in particular the 2nd show. The first one is a little too jazzy/poppy for me but the 2nd one with the guitar psych-outs, I love it. A nice tight performance.
The performance of All The Critics Love You In Montreaux is amazing.

It's a shame that Prince kept CC Dunham and Josh Dunham as his rhythm section when he had John Blackwell and Rhonda Smith by his side. I really love the jazzy arrangements and musical textures throughout the first Montreux show. Both the musicianship of those 4 musicians, with no bells and whistles is what I wish Prince would bring back to his concerts and albums. "All The Critics Love You In New York" with the references to BB King and Tavis Smiley was lighthearted and cheeky. LOVE IT! 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Yeah, these concerts are phenomenal. Exciting setlist, fucktastic muscianship. Is it hyperbolic to say they might be some of the best of his career? Hundalasiliah!
