I wouldn't mind a follow up to PlecElec if its a live album, otherwise I'm very sceptical of another 3EG album cuz I fear it will be another disappointment. A follow up to AOA would be great
Although Im sure they have other good stuff recorded already.. if they had some stuff in the vein of the Revolution track they demo'd at the yahoo event that'd be really nice. I'd like an album full of new tracks, Prince on lead vox, and perhaps a bit more experimental or a theme'd album would be nice. Change it one more time.. |

Does anyone remember the thread that was posted a few months before AOA was released in which a female musician ( I forget who ) did a radio interview about Prince's "forthcoming album," and she praised it saying that it was classic Purple Rain era Prince updated for the present. She had really amazing things to say about his album. I wonder if it was AOA she was speaking about, and how she could have drawn parallels to Purple Rain based on hearing it.
I don't know for sure but PlecElect is closer to classic Prince because its a rock album. Actually it is more explicitly a rock album than what he did from 1980-1987 when he was considered a "modern rocker." Magically from 1988-2000 he was considered "an r & b artist" but PlecElect is a claim to the rock status he deserves. |

They're not great albums, but I perfer PlecElec. It's more of the diection I want Prince to be heading in, but it doesn't capture their live magic and being billed as a 'rock' album (what I wanted) it didn't rock hard enough. Lacks the heaviness/creativeness/edginess/songwriting of his best rocks songs, like Bambi, Darling Nikki, What's My Name, Boom, Dreamer... and so on.
There are some real keepers spread between the two albums though - Time, Anotherlove, Plectrumelectrum, Tictactoe. Love the ambience on Time and the Affirmations, would love to see Prince exploring that further too.
PlecElec is better, I think its a great album for 2015 Prince to make. Also, its a first album, if he ever records 5 albums up to 2020 with this band it will be a great statement for contemporary rock. |
