How do they do it?

I just stumbled upon the Koko bootleg. How can it be possible that even the most private gigs get recorded? No need to start the 'Prince releases these boots himself' discussion again, but sometimes I just wonder.

Actually security were too busy checking IDs and invites on the night. There were no checks of pockets etc at all 😊

See in the old days, if you got caught taping a concert, you were told that, like Rerun, you could "go to jail for a long long time" if you got caught. So people figured out how to put microphones in their hats, or eyeglasses, or shoulder pads or whatever, and rig up their recording devices such that Security could look right at them, shine at flashlight in their face, and not know they were taping.

Some of us still go to gigs!

I haven't taped shows myself in like 25 years but it was fun. Now I just wait for it to appear on the internet, LOL. Only ones I really regret not taping were the two Prince club gigs I saw, one had Wendy Melvoin and the other had Andre Cymone, and I've never heard of a tape of either one surfacing.

So I guess that the tapers are the ones to go to each and every gig, or there's just a lot of them. I can imagine it is a sport amongst those guys 😉

The one show I would give my right arm for apparently wasn't recorded... sad

Never mind how they're recorded - I'm just trying to figure people get hold of these bootlegs!

(I guess I haven't really gone looking; everyone says "on the Internet!)

This isnt true (Or maybe wasnt for the most part), security didnt check any ID, they just took the paper tickets off people and put them in the bin, I relalised that I have printed two of one off and could have quite easily got away with giving that to someone. lol

I actually panicked because I'd sold a ticket to another fan who was about 100 people back and when i realised I had two tickets in my folder at the front of the line that had different refs on, her's had to be the same as one of them lucky for us they didnt check really.

It's not that hard to record, just need a pocket sized recorder, if it was someone on the Balcolny at the front would just be a case of putting it in their top pocket or something I imagine?
