Something odd that I've never seen discussed regarding Purple Rain (film) At the very end of the last scene (Baby I'm a Star performance), as the end credits are about to begin, there is a messy jumble of music that seems to have multiple music track snippets clash against each other before Let's Go Crazy finally wins out and continues through the beginning of the credits. What the heck happened? Sloppy editing? I've strangely never seen this mentioned and was wondering if I was the only crazy one here who hears this?!?
The offending scene in question:

I think it's just a sonic 'palate-cleanser' between Baby I'm a Star and Let's Go Crazy. I'm betting that they tried it just going from one song to the next, thought it sounded a little weird, and so threw that in between to clear the air.

Everybody that saw the movie heard it. Hard to believe anyone that wasn't remotely into the music did not catch that. when I saw the movie in 1984, I recognized it as just a play on the sounds as an intro to the end credits. Nothing groundbreaking, but kinda interesting. Much better than him using the damn "Prize Patrol" horn in Art Official Cage...which either Prince or Josh thought was some life altering sound effect, when it's simply a boring trend.

Ok... I just finished listening to the audio commentary of Albert Magnoli, Robert Cavallo, and Donald Thorin for the 20th anniversary Purple Rain DVD and I got the impression that it was Prince himself who cut the end credit's music that way
Interesting. It still kind of throws me off but maybe I'm just finicky that way A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

Oh, that high note is definitely the high note from When Doves Cry. I suspect all the micro-snippets in there are from tracks from the album, but I'm not certain...

It was put there so future generations would find it.

The snippets are Let's Go Crazy, Jungle Love, Beautiful Ones and then the falsetto (which I can't place). That's going to really annoy me I got two sides... and they're both friends.

There's an "ahhh" over the Doves beat but it's not from Doves. I'm not sure where it's from. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

First part totally agree with you 100%...I always thought this was a cool mash up long before there were mashups
The Second part I totally disagree with you and everyone else that doesn't get it. Prince purposely placed that horn in AOC because it has to do with the context of the song and the artifical age of music we live in...its purposely placed in the song because it is a tacky trend in todays muisc. Get it....

It is from "When Doves Cry" actually, at the 3:15 mark

You're right, it's the "hhyy" on the end of the second "why" after "why do we scream?" Without the W sound I was completely thrown off. Good catch. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

No sorry, don't get it. If it is an awful boring overused trend, it doesn't need to be there. He may as well have had guest rappers on every track:
1 featuring Lil' Wayne 2 featuring Lil' Jon 3 featuring Lil' Kim 4 featuring Lil' Flip Phone 5 featuring lil' Bow Wow 6 featuring Snoop Dog 7 featuring some other Lil' rapper with a fascinating name.

A tacky trend in a 90's Euro Trance way perhaps...

Hadn't it been fraudulently alleged years ago on this forum that this 'mash-up' contained a brief snippet of 'Traffic Jam'. Obviously, that has been disproven. .

isn't there a sample of the song" Traffic jam" at the beginning of the credits? There's Joy in repetition

this is nothing new, it's just a medley I recorded it off the VHS tape when it first came out and mixed it in with other Prince songs. It sounded heck of cool while cruising around town back in the dayz....

The oddest thing is that they drew a chalk line around his dad's body but he was still alive. Cops only do that when the body's dead.

LOL - good point. Wasn't the original plan for Prince's father to shoot/kill the mother and then kill himself? Maybe the chalk outline was a hold over from the original plan. A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

. . The decision to show that Clarence Williams' character survived/was recovering was made during the ~January 1984 pick-ups and reshoots. The original shooting script and principal photography had it that it was a suicide (or, possibly, a murder-suicide). . .

Kinda off topic but I really wish The Biography Channel would do a 2 hour "Behind The Screen" doc on "Purple Rain". They've done many other blockbuster movies from that era. They could talk with the ex band members, other actors, production crew, directors, etc. They don't even have to speak with P or use the music.
