Anyways, I have always enjoyed 319.
I always thought it sounded like this. It has the same guitar tone, and there is a part in the verse where Ohgr's vocals go into a falsetto that sounds very Princey. Skinny Puppy Tin Omen: http://youtu.be/qTIq2HyLThA
Wow I love these odd comparisons (Skinny Puppy!). It just shows how wild and original Prince's sound is at times and how it evokes interesting responses and callbacks in different ears. |

It sounds like one last burst of 80's Prince before he moved on for good. I think everyone here digs it.
Strange. 2 comments already say it sounds like a Prince 80s track. I don't hear that at all. What album would it fit on? I'm not hating. I'm curious. To me, it's a decent song but my least favorite on TGE. Yes, that's right, I put We March and Now ahead of it. Now is the shiznit. Great album. Best thing about 319 is the camera noises, imo. Cool effect. The music, well, the drums and guitar are bit too grating. Ok, maybe I'm hating a little bit. Let me stop. Lyrics are fairly good. [Edited 2/11/15 22:08pm]
The feline sexuality, falsetto, difficult genre description, and nasty lyrics are very reflective of something like Extraloveable, Darling Nikki, Shockedelica, or any Black Album track. |

Wasn't it featured in Showgirls, or was it Striptease? 'Round about the time all the Hollywood leading ladies were getting into pole dancing
Showsgirls of course!

Still to this day, I say that 319 is a Batman session leftover. The tones from the guitar, horns and synths scream Batman and 1989. IIRC, there is an interview in which Cat has said 319 came from the Batman era. Love the song.
I'm (kinda) certain this was debunked. It was a thing at one point, but it's never mentioned any more and no actual source is ever brought forward. I agree though it has those staple Batman-era synth sounds very much like Partyman.
Any way, I agree it's a great track. Why wasn't it a single? That's the mantra for a lot of 93/94 Come/Gold track isn't it!

I loved that CD. A high point of 90's Prince.
Couldn't get enough of some of those songs. Loved 319 !
Now that I sit here and I'm thinking of the CD, I remembered another one " SHY".

Showgirls for 319 but didnt Demi dance to a Prince song on a pole in striptease? Or was it another movie? "Indecent proposal"? [Edited 3/8/15 20:52pm]Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. |
