Why has Prince never played 'Little Wing' nor 'Maggot Brain'? Live? Not even, after you heard his version of Just my Imagination? Imagine what he could do to these two epic songs, if he he would try...

Man, him doing Maggot Brain would be amazing. I guess the closest he got was "Hallucination Rain" (and that's stretchin' it).

I would love to hear Prince do Maggot Brain. Hundalasiliah!

I have no interest in hearing him do Maggot Brain--I'm more than satisfied with Hazel's, and I don't care for anyone else's take. And I want the lyrics for Little Wing, and I don't think Prince could deliver those, no matter what he did with the guitar. . What I want to hear is "Cosmic Slop"--I know, off the guitar-heavy topic. But that's the P-Funk cover I want to hear, and that's all there is to it.

'Cosmic Slop' might just be my favourite P-Funk song. Would love to hear Prince's take. While we're were talking Prince covering P-Funk, I'd like to hear, 'Can You Get to That?' (another favourite). Hundalasiliah!

Why has Prince never covered War Pigs by Black Sabbath?

Why haven't Prince performed "Broken" by Pantera?

Little Wing is out of his league, that's the truth, if he could he would, he only plays what's within his abilities, so no Hot For Teacher or Texas Flood.

As long as George Clinton still tours, you can hear Maggot Brain live any time. And there's Hendrix cover bands around... No need for Prince to do this.

I just wish this person could let a thread go by without reminding us all how much they like Van Halen. You think they're better than Prince, we get it already!

He already did, it's called, "Purple Rain"

Yes, that's true, but according to Prince vault only twice. He has never made it part of his setlist, like so many other covers.

True, it isn't that hard. But to play it like Jimi or even better, putting your own personal stamp on it with a unique arrangement and solo is much more difficult.

oh I was responding to the van halen fella who says prince couldn't play it even if he wanted to.

I am not saying Prince "needs" to do this, let alone only start having a "need" when George stops touring. Do all other artists like Santana have that "need"? That's bogus argument, that fails to even grasp the point of simply wishing to hear PRINCE play this. I have been priviledged already to witness maggot brain played live several times by Michael Hampton and others. But never by Prince.

Yes, I know, but my opening post suggests he has "never" played Littel Wing and that's obviously not true. The truth is tho, he only played it twice and I have never heard it.

me? nah. If had a choice of guitar song i'd rather hear him play Beautiful Strange or the Undertaker or some other song he wrote himself.

And that's exactly why I wish he would sometimes play these songs. These two are epic guitar songs. And all of us who know Prince's guitar work, know he could do it. But we have to be happy with metal geeks that think they can match Jimi or Eddie? [Edited 2/9/15 12:42pm]

because he can't play like that and Purple Rain is not an epic solo, it's just good. He's far more average than you choose to admit or believe.

[Edited 2/9/15 12:42pm] [/quotefew rockers claim Hendrix as influential because most hard rockers play from a European viewpoint, not blues rock, and you don't know music well if you think P is a great guitarist. Why are there no tutorials or docs or tributes to his playing on you tube or anywhere else like there are for the true greats? Face it, he has no style of his own, just this and that from other players. P hasn't developed, pushed forward or innovated anything on the guitar, get it through your ass licking heads, he's competent, nothing more, never won a single award by any guitar publication, being on the cover is not an award it's marketing.

According to Blackbyrd McKnight (P-Funk guitarist) P was invited (by George) to come out and jam on "Maggot Brain"..He said they offered him the guest spot jam many times in the late 80's and early 90's and he kept turning the offer down.....but at the same time telling George he wants to do it.
