As in , original songs written, is Prince the most prolific artist ever?

Does anyone in the Prince world know if he is officially the most prolific yet? I bet he cannot be far away.

Leaving aside some very, very niche people I'd wager that Robert Pollard from Guided by Voices is the artist with the highest profile(relatively speaking) with more released songs under his name than Prince. They do tend to be very short though.

Since starting Guided by Voices in 1983, he’s registered more than 1,000 song titles with BMI. (Compare that to Prince, who’s registered only 636 with ASCAP, including eight versions of “1999.”)

I've been wondering that myself. Bob Dylan and Frank Zappa also have a staggering amount of titles to their name. And then we're only talking about rock & roll. Fela Kuti also made about 70 albums. But Prince surely would be in the top ten!

I was told before that Elton John did beat Prince..... Elton used to be really prolific as well..?
