Manic Monday: why not play it live?

Hey, does anyone know why Prince never plays this great little song live?

A great song indeed, but maybe he deems it too complicated (e.g. the female backing vocals are quite integral)...or perhaps just a little too twee. I know, given this is the man who sings 'Everybody Loves Me' that's a bit of a poser, but that's my consideration. 'Nothing Compares To You' is far more straightforward for him.

Or maybe he doesn't want to sing about 'kissing Valentino'.

I had no idea he played it in 86 and 02, I've never heard a live version of it eek

.

Given that he sings NC2U and IFFY, it would make sense, it's one of his hits even though it wasn't by him. Sugar Walls too but well... that one I guess he can't have lol

.

I've always thought MM could be great mashed up with 1999's lead line, given that they're both variations on the same melody nod

More to the point, he has never sung it live.

Sure he has played it a few times over the years, but tell me ONE instance where he himself actually sang the lead vocal ?

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

I was front row when he played this during the Xeniphobia celebration. I recall some underserving obnoxious white girl from the crowd being called up on stage to sing but I cant remember if he sand some before or after she did.

I remember this person, was a regular poster here, and she did an ok job all things considered, had some singing experience. I have the recording somewhere.

And why not do 'Round And Round' for instance? It was a #12 hit ("I've got so many hits!") and the lyrics are JW-proof.

He was playing it as we walked into The Point, Dublin in 2002 for the NPGMusicClub sound-check. Don't recall whether he was singing it though!
