Could an official Prince documentary ever be made?

The best way to counteract bad information and bootlegs is with accurate information from an official source.

With that said, I think Prince could do a lot of good by giving the world a long, true, official glimpse of who he was, really is, and what he strives to become in the form of a documentary that he would be in charge of producing.

Maybe what has been seen as eccentric behavior by him suing people illegally using his music and videos is actually a calculated chess move with this very aim? And who knows what video treasures the vault might contain?

So discuss:

(1) What would an official documentary by Prince contain?

(2) What would you not want to see? Why?

(3) Do you think his current status as a Jehovah's Witness would make such a documentary impossible or improbable? Why?

Note: Let's not barrage the man with a pile of insults. He became the musicial genius he has because he followed his own aesthetics and whims, not because he did what everyone wanted him to do. The number of hits he has written for other artists shows that he could write "safe" pop if he wanted. The recent release of Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum show a tremendous talent stretching out into new territory (more social commentary in lyrics) and whose past success has given him the room to enable him to experiment in front of the music-consuming public.

Grace and peace,

Joshua

in the late 80s,there were tentative plans for a Prince documentary, titled The Dark Side Of The Moon.I thought it was good idea back then and I still think Prince should do it.

I think it's unlikely. He wouldn't want to put out anything like Bedtime Stories, or anything with a reality tv tone, and there's no damn way he's going to let audiences into his controlled world with full transparency. I think the best we could get is a film about a specific recording session or event. That seems to appeal more to older artists.

Misleading thread title...

And keep in mind that Prince might be an official source, he is hardly a reliable one....

I think it would be impossible to put his career and life into a single 1 hour documentary, whether it is a full 60 minutes BBC style or 41 minutes due to the insertion of ads. Prince's music alone would not even fit into it. They would have to say Prince has had many hit albums and was popular in the 80s blah blah. I think it would need to be at least 3 hours or a series of parts each at least 1 hour long and possibly 4 - 8 hours doing parts.

.

The documentary would need to include his life to the point of his signing, musical influences, then finding a deal, his music, his more important relationships and of course his fight with Warner Brothers, his post 1992 music. Finally it would mention the latest dilemmas and his touring history and new albums being proof he still is relevant.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Most likely there will be one, after he is no longer around to stop it from being made.

I kind of enjoy his insistence on not getting too hung up on the past, even the recent past.

Why would you choose this thread title? To gain what you want? It's nearly criminal marketing. Just sayin'.

Side note to those objecting to the title of the thread: It was a question, not a statement. And it was tied to the content of my original message. I guess I wasn’t explicit enough in said message, so I’ve changed the title. My bad.

Now can we participate in a discussion on the issue of an official Prince documentary?
