The next Prince album?

Some of us are still digesting PE and AOA, some are bored by them by now and others never liked these albums in the first place.

So it is about time to start speculating about his next new album, ain't it??? lol

Let me kick thing off and say that I would like another album in the vein of TRC, with "real music by real musicians", well written and arranged songs, lots of funk preferably and a vintage analog production. With interesting, non-preachy lyrics please. I'd like to hear that he was having FUN while making the album, and I would like him to forget completely about scoring hits and following modern trends.

What would you like him to do (apart from remasters)? A funk album, more 3EG rock, an album of ballads, would you prefer modern digital production or oldschool analog recording? What is it you would like to get from Prince this time and why?

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

This. I would love another album in the vein of TRC, I would love even more for it to feature 'Xenophobia'. It appears Prince has been working on something, or at least songs, in that vein too - with 'Revelation' (which is really promising) being previewed on the Yahoo stream. Though, a lot of people would likely say it was in response to Black Messiah like they said TRC was to Voodoo.

Ideally, I would like this coupled with another 3EG album, in the same way AOA was coupled with PlectrumElectrum. However, I'd only want this if they've actually gone the whole mile and made a hard edged rock album. And taken Hannah off lead vocals, (though I would be open to something short like, 'I Wonder U', or a quirky little song like Meg on White Stripes albums). A hard rock/acoustic album could be interesting from 3EG.

It'd be interesting for Prince to really push himself and experiment. Or create something murky in the vein of 'There's a Riot Goin' On', (I was watching the footage of him covering Sly at North Sea Jazz the other day and thought that would be a great idea). Most of all, I just want Prince to create something interesting, something well written and arranged... something musically and lyrically impressive. If he did that, it wouldn't matter to me what the genre was. I'd like to see Prince stop trying to court popular appeal/chart success and just embrace what he's creating (like he did with TRC). If he gets chart success, then I'm happy for him, but if not, so what.

Well said. I have felt the exact same way ever since AOA came out. Although it's a good album it's not an album that all that impressive in terms of songwriting or musical arrangements. With the exception of "Way Back Home", "Time" and the affirmation interludes, the songs sound like better polished songs intended to gain BDS spins on urban contemporary radio formats as well as adult contemporary.

I love 3RDEYEGIRL as a band. I dig the concept, but the Plectrum Electrum songs have too much variety. A rock album with hip hop production ("Boy Trouble") and average r&b produced love song ("Stop This Train") halted that album in its track. Only thing, release the 3RDEYEGIRL album first then towards the end of the year, drop the solo album that in the vein of TRC-serious approach to musical composition and songwriting. He doesn't have to answer any artist that he has had an influence on but I hope he'll change his attitude towards his music.

I only just got PE and it's a much better record than people here give it credit for. I agree with bashraka about Boytrouble and Stop This Train, they seem out of place, but hey, only two weak tracks on it? The rest is good! And if he doesn't sound like he's having fun on this one, then I don't think he ever will. Ayway, I'd love him to do an old fashioned soul/funk/blues album with some really good songs on it and sum juicy, horny horns. In other words, an album full of stuff like Groovy Potential and Da Bourgeoisie. No Rainbow Children! Please! No! I like rocking Prince, funky Prince, but not pseudo-jazz Prince.

I dig both of the recent releases..kinda like a double record if you listen to them back to back. My only request is that he does all of the lead vocals...I don't care for the guest vocalists.

Hoping we get close to the old days of a new album each year. If we got something close to Christmas 2015 I'd be happy.

Not too hopeful of that though, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

warning2all

I expect the next official album to be "Purple Rain 30";

The next new studio album to have more horns and not a one man band album.

Frankly, I don't see 3rdeye Girl lasting beyond 2015, and I cannot see Warner accepting another album from that banner.

3cd set.
1. Prince - traditional all Prince album.
2. Prince and Npg - funk album with horns.
3. Prince and 3EG - heavy rock album.
- "real music by real musicians" on all three.
What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Shockedelicus

Prince's major musical problem for a while now has been his idea that every record should stick to one sound only, even to the detriment of the music: 3121's murky funk actually worked, but I can't say the same for, Planet Earth's mild rock/r&b, Lotusflow3r's neo-psych nonsense, etc.

For his next LP, he should just go with what sounds good. Just make catchy, entertaining songs, arrange them in a "fast song, fast song, slow song" order, and call it an album. He shouldn't worry about the genre or cohesion or whatever. AoA was a step in the right direction, but we're not there yet.

... That or just open the damn vault. It's all we really want at this point.

I'll be happy enough with the usual trickle of standalone funk songs of varying standards, followed by some new half-baked 'concept' album. If he wants to do better, or open the vault, then great!

Mr Prince does not count time.

Mr Prince owns `The Time`.

So why speculate?

Or even now?

I want what fans wanted throughout the 90s but never got: a complete Tony M experience.

12 tracks of Tony M rapping. Prince can sing backing vocals. Best album since Sign 'o the Times.

And for the love of God, remaster Jughead already!

You know I've never heard 'Goldnigga'. I don't like most of Prince's hip-hop stuff, but some of it's ok. And even his worst albums usually have a couple of good songs, so I'd probably find something worth listening to here, right?
