Prince got robbed at the Grammys

AnotherLove was clearly song of the year.

Yeah man, he got robbed! He had rehearsed an extensive set with the Revolution and the at the last minute he was told there wasn't any time left.

And then they threw an orange bagover him and pushed him onstage.

LOL. Yeah. Matter of opinion I guess. If it was then I guess Alice Smith deserves the credit. She wrote it. You know it s sad though that the best songs that Prince does now are covers. He should do a complete cover album and maybe we could finally get a good album

I dont know if AOA was eligible but there is no way that there was an R&B album nominated that was better

Given the shittiness of the Grammys, it's hard to say he's missing out.

It should be motivation to return to the studio with a vengence to record and promote his next record to give it the best exposure Warner Bros. and Prince could provide so that he can get nominated for the Grammys next year. Plenty of bad albums get nominated doesn't make them deserving of winning.

I don't think either of his albums were upto par if you're comparing them to everything else released over the past year.

Having said that - Future Baby Mama was terrible and that won a Grammy. "Time"/"AnotherLove" deserved at least a nomination.

Absolutely not. The Grammys was long a conservative body that missed the cultural boat year after year, until it made some efforts to counter some of its worst tendencies, which resulted in some rewarding editions but still a fair share of supersafe/commercially obvious wins.

That was when the music scene was not such a cookie-cutter universe. Now that the likes of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are the monarchs of a cute Fisher Price "pop" scene, we have to count our blessings that Beck is around to represent true exceptional talent if the "the Academy" did not get around to nominating AOA or PLEL this year.

AOA is way better than many of the things they've nominated him for in the past.. he's been nominated for everything from the Happy Feet song to Cinnamon Girl.. which both sounded crappy to me. I don't how how they go about their nominations, but it all seems a bit random to me.

Change it one more time..

"Albums matter". Seems like Prince's way of saying 'I had a great abum this year. Maybe not a collection of hit singles...'. Can't say I agree with him though. Babyface and Toni Braxton won Best R&B Album, and tbh, I didn't listen to that one much either.

Prince got robbed at the Grammys during the peak of his career imo.

When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, Cream, Beautiful Girl... some of the biggest hits of their respective years, totally ignored at the Grammys. Back in the 80s/90s Prince was always nominated for stuff like Best R&B Vocal Performance or Best Pop Collaboration Performance.. he never got song of the year even in 1984. Unfortunate, but P was still a winner in our hearts wink

In contrast, in the past 10 years post-Musicology, he consistently gets Grammy nominations for songs like Future Baby Mama, Dreamer, Cinnamon Girl AKA songs that weren't even hits, just album songs that end up getting nominations. Oddly, Black Sweat+Call My Name both snagged Best R&B Song nominations in '05 and '07, whereas his biggest hit singles from the 80s and 90s were missed. Someone said on the org once that it seems like the Grammys seem to be 'making up' to Prince for ignoring him during his prime. IDK.

Also, Can't Slow Down should not ever have won that Grammy. I like Lionel, but even if Prince didn't win it shouldn't have gone to CSD. P was robbed. In 1988, I kind of almost sort of understand (I like The Joshua Tree and the album was probably looked at as more concise/'catchy' than SOTT). But no way in hell should Purple Rain have lost in 85

Prince got robbed at the Grammys?

He did?

He really should leave his purse with his bodyguard and not out on the table with that diamonte symbol clasp glittering away for everyone to see.

Can't believe an album with songs like "SOTT" "HQ" "Hot Thing" "Dorothy" "Take the place" "Starfish"

FUCKING "Adore" and my favourite song of all time, how the hell do you leave this out the winner, "If I Was Your Girlfriend" could loose to U2 how popular their songs may be. I just can't comprehend that madness.

Yeah, Prince was robbed. His latest crappy albums was way less crappy than all the other crappy albums that was released this year. Prince should had won the Grammy by default.

For real, I need to get the computer checked out. Some time ago it started replacing random words with those links. I actually never noticed the fact that when I'd quote a post on the org, it would 'linkify' words, so thanks for the heads up.

Prince also got robbed at The Oscars.

How could he not even be nominated for original song for "Purple Rain" and "When Doves Cry". He should've easily won but damn, he wasn't even nominated.

"Kiss" should've been nominated and awarded in 1986.

Was "Alabama Song" a Doors track or a cover?
How about "All Along The Watchtower"? Hendrix track or Jimi covering Dylan?
There are cover songs and then there are artists who take a song and reimagine a track so originally that it is truly their own. "Anotherlove" is not a cover, it's a Prince hard ass, stanky, rocking, rolling, banger. Period. Prince is a genius and you're not. Carry on.
I wish u heaven
