I still listen a lot to AOA and think it`s a great album.

It is cohesive, has a storyline and some really nice songs: Time, The breakdown, the gold standard,

affirmation, way back home and this could be us...

And with josh`s production it brings some new sounds to Prince`s music...

Right now it is my favourite Prince album...

It's a fine record. It really is. There's a coherency about it that's been missing on Prince's records for some time. There's barely a clunker on it, depending on your taste, and (sadly) that's the new standard for modern Prince albums. I think it's meant to sound a bit artifical and plastic, like it's part of the theme, and for once the theme is not all up in my face and the segues are tolerable and sometimes interesting. It's a little ballad heavy for my liking but I appreciate the lack of "skippers" on this one for the most part. Usually I find mylsef letting it play through.

.

The sequenceing and the production are alos quite good for a change and the album has a...what?...a flow to it that I keep finding myself appreciating, especially the back end. "Funk N Roll", as divisive as it is, is sorely needed when it chimes in just to pick up the tempo a bit. That's what I mean about the sequencing of the tracks.

.

There's a spacey feel to this record that's sort of intoxicating and that I can't quite put my finger on.

I have to say, usually through the years my taste usually coincide with the "die hards" pretty well except on this one! I have really tried as I was just attributing not liking it to I am getting old as I just can't get into it. There are a few songs, Clouds, Breakdown, maybe Breakfast can Wait that I can tolerate/like but otherwise, WAYYY too many mid-tempo repetitive machine songs that just do not hold my interest and I have found it mostly unlistenable. The interludes with the British lady I find as much, if not more, annoying than the ones on TRC and Gold.

However, if there is a newer or different generation or group that embraces this CD then great, and enjoy. But for me, it is as someone said above, a notch above MPLS Sound, which I found abysmal, but certainly not something remotely interesting to my ear as just too boring and mundane. But the "great music" title is like beauty, it is in the eyes, or in this case ears, of the beholder. So Klick, you strap on those Bose or Beats by Dre headphones and rock it til your ear drums bleed!! smile

I totally respect that and well said. I have found that with any of Prince's music in time it grows on me and then I wonder how I could miss each gem of a song.

I'm on the love train in this one, the more I listen to it the more I like it. The second half (bar Funknroll) is just so beautiful... A few months on and still listening to it on a daily basis...

Eye was TOTALLY blown away when Eye heard the snippets. But after hearing the complete package. The concept, The fresh organic sound without losing his quirkiness. He NAILED IT!

Great followup to the MASTERPIECE 20T3N... It was worth the wait prince.

Whilst I like the album, organic sounding it is not. Is there a real, organic drum to be heard anywhere on the album?

Yes it is! prince manages on this album to sound freshly organic, embracing new technologies, while at the same time, not abandoning his quirky, unique, sound. Using Andy(whose voice blends perfectly with his) added a nice youthful touch. Also, Lianne La Havas vocal interludes added to the unique concept of the brilliantly titled album. Joshua's debut co- producing skills was a nice added touch also. This alBum sounds FANTASTIC!!!

BTW- A.O.A. is not a drum pattern driven album. Like D'angelo's album. That is focused primarily off of them. The live drum programming on A.O.A. fits the concept. It's not driven by it.

AOA is organic and D'Angelo's album (with Questlove killing the drums) is all based on drum machines? Now I've heard it all.

I said DRUM PATTERN! Not drum machine. Quote me right!

Quest does kill the drums on #BlackMessiah! it wasn't an insult toward that project. disbelief

can't help feel if AoA started with Clouds and Artificial Cage as replaced with something else - it would be regarded more favourably - i think that the 1st track just puts people off a bit - it's a bit childish/juvenile to be taken seriously.
