It's a good album. It's not in the top 5 Prince albums I can't believe anyone really considers it is.

Not to many objective fans on this site. AOA is just okay.. Nothing groundbreaking & a very Safe album to my ears.. BOB4theFUNK

"Purple Rain" was & will always be Prince's best album. Without it there would be no prince.org today BOB4theFUNK

In my top ten I would say. if it had a stronger opener, along with a tighter version of Gold Standard it might even rank higher.

Clouds, TCBU, WBH, UKnow, Time, TISWIFL continue to impress, especially on headphones.
Would love to see a high concept video for the album although that is as likley as budgies flying out of my posterior.
What is TISWIFL? I must be missing something. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

AOA is as good as purple rain or anything else. Its different (its exciting) but as good, and we would not want more of the same.
Ill say it again if it had been released in the 80s it would have been huge with 3 or 4 hit singles.
Also when talking about record sales for AOA dont forget he released two albums on same day. So sales for one of these albums would have higher if this had not been the case.
Really u need to add the sales of both albums together and this is what he really sold, with hardly any promotion.

I like it....but its not one of his top five or nuthin. A little off topic here....but I was thinking(uh ohhhhh)...and maybe Claire Fischer's age and ultimately, death had a part to play in the 4 year delay in princes releases. He can be picky with who he works with and maybe he had problems with finding another suitable string arranger. In 2009, Claire was too ill to show up at some tribute to him...20ten was princes last release... Princes working relationship with Claire was the longest in his career....spanning decades...hmmmm...they never met personally.

I'm guessing This Is What It Feels Like..... so the acronym should have been TIWIFL. |

Nice album...but my continual opinion on it is that it's a Prince album trying too hard to pander to the young people with Auto Tune, stupid loud horn sound effects, etc. And the annoying woman talking over the music drives me crazy. I've edited out as much as I possibly can with my limited abilities. Lotus Flow3r is tons better in my opinion. AOA is good, but Josh's influence is corny and tired trends at best. Considering P has over 30 albums, rating it higher than 15 is just overreacting to the moment.

I still listen a lot to AOA and think it`s a great album. It is cohesive, has a storyline and some really nice songs: Time, The breakdown, the gold standard, affirmation, way back home and this could be us... And with josh`s production it brings some new sounds to Prince`s music... Right now it is my favourite Prince album... [Edited 1/23/15 3:32am]

Not true to you. Very true to others. AOA is a masterpiece, its a different sounding masterpiece to PR ETC... Alot of people say they want Prince to do something different from PR AND OTHERS, but when he does it they say oh hes playing to the younger crowd, or shame he is using autotune. Yes he maybe is, and theres nothing wrong with this, I want him to try something new. Move on from PR SOTT, he did years ago. If you want PR OR SOTT put it on repeat. AOA classic. I'm glad you like it. It has its merit. But I don't consider it good enough to be classic. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan

I have to say, usually through the years my taste usually coincide with the "die hards" pretty well except on this one! I have really tried as I was just attributing not liking it to I am getting old as I just can't get into it. There are a few songs, Clouds, Breakdown, maybe Breakfast can Wait that I can tolerate/like but otherwise, WAYYY too many mid-tempo repetitive machine songs that just do not hold my interest and I have found it mostly unlistenable. The interludes with the British lady I find as much, if not more, annoying than the ones on TRC and Gold.
However, if there is a newer or different generation or group that embraces this CD then great, and enjoy. But for me, it is as someone said above, a notch above MPLS Sound, which I found abysmal, but certainly not something remotely interesting to my ear as just too boring and mundane. But the "great music" title is like beauty, it is in the eyes, or in this case ears, of the beholder. So Klick, you strap on those Bose or Beats by Dre headphones and rock it til your ear drums bleed!!
