Come - Underrated.

Listening to this rt now, and forgot how amazing this album is...it seemed to not make much noise when it was released, but I can hear where Pharrell got some inspiration....how bout you?

It's moody, perfect for when you're feeling like you need to go cause trouble lololol in th ebest way of course sexy

Best Prince album in the 90's from 91-99! Grafitti Bridge doesn't count as it was a collection of 80's tracks.

I got into Prince about 6 months before this album was released and I remember the general sense of it was that it was okay but not great. I generally agreed. To my ears now, it has aged extremely well. One of my favorites from the 90s, to me better than TGE.

I absolutely love Come - it is fantastic,

Come & The Gold Experience is Prince's "peak of his 1990s releases".

Lovd this since first listen, even though I was very disapointed with the title track after hearing and absolutely loving the version from The Beautiful Experience TV special.

RIP sad

Could we stop with the "X doesnt count because it doesn't fit my own personal criterias" nonesense, please?

It's better than Grafitti Bridge anyway.

If it wasn't for the stigma of being a "contractual obligation" album, it wouldn't be as dismissed-

My favorite '90's Prince album- dark, brooding, lots of horns, funky, unique, the seque from "Come" to "Space",...its the dark " Parade"

Under rated in deed. I made a thread on this a couple months ago.

The sound and songs have aged well, unlike The Gold Experience which sounds very corny while listening to it today.

I love the album version of Come. Both versions are great, but I couldn't call the album version disappointing.

I rated this album from the start. Still, I quite like New Power Soul also, so what do I know?

It´s a good album in hindsight but it could´ve been so much better if he kept Strays of the World on it and left out those moans inbetween songs.

This is what I wrote about Strays of the World on another thread:

"---

very beautiful song with profound lyrics. People on the org often mock it for its bombastic style and over the top vocals in some parts but I love the music, love the lyrics and love the vocal delivery. This one should´ve been the closing song on the Come album like it was originally supposed to be. It would´ve been the perfect ending for that album and would´ve fit in perfectly (and would´ve made the album more of a concept album than it already is). I love the drums in it, the guitar, the keys, the bass....the NPG at their best. And miss that heavy, strong , tight original NPG sound.

-"

-

-It really would´ve made more sense to use one of the other configurations of this album. This being said, I´m probably the only org member who prefers the album version of the title song Come over any other version. My only problem with it are the slurping cunnilingus sounds.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I think the original, 1993 configuration would have worked well but not the March 1994 one: Interactive and (at this stage) Endorphinmachine were much more "at home" on TGE. As for SOTW, I hear that you dig it but I'm 99% sure that in the context of 1994 it would have been ridiculed beyond mesure (the Queen homage thing was sooooo 1992 by then lol). I personally would have been deeply disappointed to have it on Come nod

2-7 are strong and some of my favorites. For some reason though Come, Solo and Orgasm just absolutely destroy this album and makes it unlistenable to me. The original version of Come I love but I cringe at the one on here. Solo and Orgasm should have just been b-sides. I really hate those two songs and really don't play this album because of those three songs. IT just kills it for me.

I like the version of Come on the album but its way to long, should have been around 4-5 min. But I agree Solo and Orgasm kind of ruins the album a bit, but still Come is better than TGE imo

So have I...maybe I'm mistaken, but you never see much talk of any of the songs on this album...and listening to it again, now...I can hear where pharrelle/n.e.r.d. mined it for sounds...

I always kind of looked at this album as a collection of Gold Experience b-sides, with the better and meatier tracks saved for TGE. I always liked it but never loved it. I love that bootleg called The Dawn that combines both of them, though. Great era.

That´s the way I saw it back then, too. But, now that more than 20 years have passed, I must admit that these days the songs on Come seem to have stood the test of time a bit better than the songs on TGE. TGE sounds a bit dated, and the NPG operator segues are a bit silly.

I love both albums though. Good times, good era.

Papa, Race and Dark are good, but not outstanding. The rest is just everyday Prince. So no. Not a great album. Just another "it's only for WB anyway, so why would I do my best" album. And what's with the 1958-1993 nonsense? As if anyone really believed Prince had died and was reborn as prince.

GB does have a lot of 80s leftovers on it. But I do agree Come is better, regardless of what I said in my previous post.
