Papa: "Everybody's crazy...deep down we're going insane...every single one of us...knows some kind of pain..." --the funk blues to psychedelic guitar transition gets me every time.
Money Don't Matter 2 Night: simply deep plus great music equals great song. I don't see any threads about this song, on here.
Da Bang: I've mentioned this song before. One of his greatest songs of the 90's. Absolutely intense music plus great delivery plus killer guitar. Not many people talk about this song, either.
I think Prince's background harmonies in this song as good as anything he's ever done.

Huh...good thread idea, Averett.
Off the top of my head:
Strange But True from Rave gets lost in the shuffle in the midst of a pretty sketchy record but I really repsect the vulnerability he expresses there. It's obvious he's speaking to someone specifically and it reminds me of lovers past. The lyrics hit home for me.
What else? You need 3, right? Conversley, I'd say I Wonder U gets lost in the shuffle of a rather overrated record. Parade is OK but I don't pull it out much and this song tends to bring in people who like progessive stuff like Pink Floyd and Peter Gabriel.
Lastly, and again off the top of my head, I know Emacipation gets crapped on a lot but I always thought In This Bed I Scream gets lost in the mix simply because there are so many songs there. The closing part needs to go on for another 5 minutes or so.
So:
Strange But True
I Wonder U
IN This Bed I Scream

SPOT ON Great choices! There are so many great songs on Emancipation that get lost because of the sheer volume of songs on there. Right Back Here in my Arms came up on my shuffle today and what a killer tune. I blasted that one! |

His background harmonies, his lead vocal...everything. One of my favorite parts is the background "Oooh" after the second verse, during the chorus. |

Very cool idea for a topic!
1. Here
2. Rock Hard in a Funky Place (the Camille project is obviously well-loved here, but this one seems to be forgotten most of the time but it's my fav Camille cut by far)
3. Goodbye
You know, that wasnt nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be for me lol. Get in your mouse, and get out of here! |

On any given day I'd probably have three different answers, but here's what I've got today:
- Cloreen Baconskin: A wonderful peek into the jamming/writing process (did this become Irresistible Bitch?), and an early look into P's crazy sense of humour.
- Tangerine: So sweet (no pun intended)! Reminds me of something that could have sprung up on Around the World in a Day.
- Betcha By Golly Wow: Sue me. A cover, yes. Saccharine, yes. But I really feel like he means it... really feel his excitement for what his life was supposed to become. So yeah, it has that other layer, which makes it painfully poignant also.
PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman! |

I like a lot of those mentioned! Here's 3 that I love, but don't think I've seen here:
So Far, So Pleased
Chaos & Disorder

Hide the bone - great modern day funk $- real fun track that sound's directly out of 1986
Saviour - Great chorus, even better bridge with magnificent key change. [Edited 1/16/15 15:51pm]
We're here, might as well get into it. |

Here - simple brilliance. Simultaneously quirky and smooth.
Mad Sex - one of the meanest basslines... ever. Nice horny track in more ways than one.
U Know - he didn't "steal" this track nearly as much as he rescued it. Superior songwriting, vocal accuracy, and lyrical delivery. I want to say that aggressive promotion with a quality video and some (industry standard) pay-to-play love would have allowed him a significant boost in younger fans, but I have a hard time actually believing it. At the end of the day, he approached a hip-hop track like a hip-hop artist and did the damn thing and this 80s baby appreciates the effort. THIS is the track you get Q-Tip on and shoot a video for... NOT Chocolate Box. |

Glad to see some love for Mad Sex on the org. Always felt this gem of a track was criminally overlooked. |
