So, um, seriously, WTF? Huge build up to the reissues, the new albums, that ridiculous female Prince impersonator on the Breakfast vid and Arsenio...
Then the releases happen, albums are well received, hints of a tour, hope of PR remasters with bonus material...
Then... Prince disappears citing negative vibes.
2014 over. 2015 here.
Now we have 2 albums that btw are still spinning in my car, on my iPod, these albums are honestly two of the best in a long time. I am very satisfied musically, even reciting lyrics verbatim which for me is huge, haven't memorized entire albums since '92. So if anything we have some great music. And if we weren't dick teased by all the possibilities brought about by the Warners reunion I'd probably be cool right now. But I'm not...
So, um, seriously, Prince, WTF? I wish u heaven

I think something may have happened with Prince's relationship with Warners (surprise, surprise, lol)
To "punish" them,he cancels all the promotion of these albums.
Maybe that's why we're not hearing anything about the Purple Rain remaster?

Wtf Prince. The question we've asked every year since 1979. RIP

Prince has been in semi-retirement for most of the 2000s. He'll play live every once in a while, do a tv appearance every once in a while, release the occasional new album. Was there a big promotional campaign for Lotusflower? If there was, I haven't noticed. Nothing has changed. Enjoy the new album(s) and stop worrying. Happy new year!

There seems to be a lot of disappointment this time around by the fan base- who seems to care more about Plec & AOA than Prince. He's lost interest or is mad at somebody/something

Who knows?
Likely he feels confirmed in everything he's been warning about, with the industry having its worst year for reasons he foresaw. In the week before AOA and PLEL were released, much of the Org already seemed to have the tracks and were reviewing them. It's not hard to imagine what went through his mind: is music worth making anymore if so few pay for it?
As dedicated an artist as he is, it doesn't economically makes sense to pay the bills for his studio and bandmembers unless he goes on tour and the records are treated as expensive promos for the tour. Check the record sales, now 9k is enough to land you in the RnB Top 10 -- record sales do not bring in much revenue to that many individuals, especially those with their own studio and band members to pay, the US market as a whole now sells less that 5 million albums weekly, the pie is getting smaller and the slices are much thinner with the market being so fractured.
I wouldn't be surprised if he took a long break from everything.

Seriously?? I'm counting 16 albums (plus individual downloads) and more than 700 live appearances since 2000.

Okay, I forgot about the NPGMC, but that wasn't available to the general public, so it sort of counts. With "semi-retirement" I also meant making limited edition recordings. But I guess my statement was a bit vague.

This is par for the course with P. My disappointment stems from how much I loved AOA. I really wanted this to be the beginning of a sustained effort by P. That was foolish of me. On the other hand, I thought 3EG was mostly pretty lame. If P's disappearance leads to him forming a new band, I'm excited to hear the new direction. I should also add that I'm sad about this silence because there was a lot of excitement and positivity on the Org. Sure, for many people that was driven partially by all the fantastic new leaks. But it added to the AOA excitement for me. This community got a little more interesting for a couple of months. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Prince just pimped WB to get his masters back. Very strategic; WB (and we) go two good (if not classic) albums out of the deal. Be happy.
