eek biggrin there's not one song on ATWIAD that even comes close to the brilliance of "When Doves Cry"...but I'd like to hear why you think ATWIAD is a better album

When Doves cry is a great song so it may be the exception as the best song from either project. That said, Pop-Life is almost just as good. After that, each song from ATWIAD is every bit as good as PR.

PR has Take Me with U, Baby I'm a Star & I Would Die 4 U...........all weak songs compared to

1. Around the World in a Day
2. Paisley Park
3. Condition of the Heart
4. Raspberry Beret
5. Tamborine
6. America
7. Pop Life
8. The Ladder
9. Temptation

The bravest followup album of all time is more like it. Anyone who cared solely for money back then would have been making a purple rain 2, Prince does a 180, at the risk of losing his new fanbase, momentuem from Purple Rain, etc. A VERY brave move imo.

I don't think it reached quite the heights of Purple Rain, but its definitely a great album. Its interesting and takes risks that work most of the time. It also took major balls to release as the follow up. However, PR has nothing near as embarrassing as the end of Temptation.
