You can't make a blanket statement that "he lost them" as if you're speaking for all Jews.

That said, what are your feelings about these lyrics?

My interpretation is that American culture and the media, in particular, focuses far more on the Nazi Holocaust then we ever do on American Slavery. The fact that America was founded on slavery and thrived because of it is likely the reason. Our dark twisted past is still haunting us while the Holocaust is not. Therefore we "choose" to ignore our past here in the US.

Getting back to my point..."would you rather be dead or be sold?". I think Prince is saying he would choose to be dead rather than be treated like cattle and property for over 200 years.

I would easily choose the same path. Given the same choice with my children, for instance, if heaven forbid they were abducted - after I had looked for them exhaustively - I would rather find they had died or killed than be tortured or sex-trafficked. In my opinion, long-term torture and rape are far worse than death.
