No Grammy nods =????

No Grammy nominations for Prince this year.
Was the music sub-par?
Misunderstood?
Unappreciated?
A show of support for WB?
A deliberate snup?
confused

Or simply the music nominated was considered more worthy of nomination.

Is it possible the submissions to the Academy weren't done on time, if at all? The albums dropped on September 30th, the very last day an album can be released for it to be eligible for nominations.

Meh. The Grammy Awards are VERY hit or miss when it comes to what Prince (or anyone else in music) is actually doing. I mean, how many Grammy's does James Brown have? The Beatles? Jimi?

-

Example: Check out the scattershot list of Prince things that have won Grammy's-

http://www.grammy.com/artist/prince

-

Lastly, am I mistaken, or was NEWS up for a grammy in 2004?

Sorry but 2014 was a pretty great music year and Prince's music is just not up to par with the rest. Sorry but he should not be nominated because there is just simply better music out than his this year.

I'm not saying Prince deserved nominations which is subjective but what's not subjective was the sub par year in music this was which is inherent in the nominees this year.

2014 blew. Mainstream music (which is what the Grammys are all about) was even worse than in 2013. I fail to understand how anyone could think 2014 was even a remotely passable year for the mainstream music scene.

And anyway, what's so surprising? Of course Prince isn't getting nominated for a Grammy in 2015. I'm amazed so many people were actually expecting this to become reality. This isn't 1985.

Hell, why not nominate him for a Grammy this year? His latest definitely fits in with all the rest of those dull asses out there these days. He certainly lowered himself enough trying to achieve their sound.

Vainandy, our lovely pre-Purple Rain purist! I see you're still waiting for Sexy Trancer, Filthy Mind and Let's Twerk after all these years. Something about that is very heartwarming.

While in general I'd agree - there are exceptions. This year, in the best R&B album category – consider Bernhoft's "Islander," an album that went to #1 for weeks in his homeland of Norway but made little noise at all in the US despite some great music and fun videos. The guy is ultra-talented and hasn't really broken through in the US at all (and should - he kicks ass.)

.

It's the first time a non-American artist has been nominated for the category. That's very un-Grammy like.
