Your favourite Prince songs/albums... when you're stoned!

So I know Prince is all anti-drugs and all that shite, but I dare say more than a handful of his fanbase (and on the org) are bound to be stoners.

So, for those who indulge...

What would be your top P songs to get nicely toasted to?

I was gonna make this a Top 10 thing, but I didn't want to put in the work so I'm going to make this and informal list. Can be as many songs or albums as you want and they don't have to be in any particular order.

Anyway, here's a list of songs I like to hear when I'm chonged;

  • Ballad of Dorothy Parker
  • Condition Of THe Heart
  • Crystal Ball
  • Shockadelica
  • Joy in Repitition (Both studio and ONA LIVE versions)
  • Dream Factory
  • Erotic City
  • The Everlasting Now
  • When Doves Cry
  • Around the World in a Day
  • I Wonder U
  • Thieves in the Temple (Extended Remix)
  • Something In the Water Does Not Compute
  • Power Fantastic
  • Crimson and Clover
  • Colonized Mind
  • Endorphin Machine
  • 3 Chains O' Gold (but only the last section)

Too many to name, so I'll get back to my list. For now, I wanna hear what you guys think.

Also, the list doesn't just have to be songs. It can be entire albums if you like. For me it would be albums like Lotus, Around the World, Parade, 1999, NEWS, Sign O' The Times, The Rainbow Children, Come and The Black Album.

Well, I'm sure most people on this site drink alcohol and caffine. They're drugs. Drugs more harmful than weed (well, I dunno about coffee, but alcohol? Definitely). But I don't want to turn this thread into a whole drug debate...

So, what prince songs do YOU like on... I dunno... caffeine?

In all My Dreams / Adonis & Bathsheba / Noon Rendezvous (the melancholy vibe always interacts well with my sativa based THC intake) / Just my Imagination / The War / Strange Relationship (especially live vesrions from 88-89')/ Any collaboration with Clare Fischer / Crystal Ball / Splash (I know, I can't explain it either, must be the weed) / Facedown / The Ride / Poor Goo / Way Back Home & Affirmations I, II, & III / most of his live stuff. I'm sure I am missing a bunch, must be the "dangers" of marijuana, or it could just be P's catalog of songs spanning 4 decades - all of them pretty weed friendly.

How I expect this thread is going to turn out:

10% people actually talking about what P songs they like to get baked to

40% people preaching anti drugs messages because "One of my friends did weed once. They died a week later from ~unknown~ causes".

50% claiming Prince has never done drugs, never will and is pretty much Jesus reincarnated

Just let people do what they want. If this thread was something like "What songs do you like to do H to?" we would have a problem. But weed? Come on, even the most innocent of us have smoked a tiny bit of ganja in our lives.

I dunno man, I can pretty much listen to anything half baked, but Come comes to mind as does Lotusflower, TRC, & SOTT. Wait a minute, NEWS of course is perfect for really mellowing out!

I think the closest he's come to making anything like a stoner album is Exodus. There are some deep layers to some of the songs on that album. "Big Fun", "Halucination Rain" and "The Exodus Has Begun" being some of my favorites. (Listen to the multi-layered background vocals and how they fade in and out of each other and between Prince and Sonny on TEHB. I usually have "Johnny" from Goldnigga on the same playlist along with "Come on" from NPS and Joint to Joint from Emancipation. And a short intrumental I know only as climax.

Do you guys remember that total guitar-anihilated version of "Days O' Wild" from the first NPG Ahdio Show?

That's the ultimate.

Although, anyone can find any joy from any song while under the influence...

Prost!

Anything that is long and meanders like the almighty Severn: Purple Music, Cloreen Bacon Skin, most of the songs on 1999, Computer Blue with hallway speech, pretty much any 12" extended single/b-side mix, It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night, and stuff from the Undertaker.

I take a couple hits before bed and fall asleep to Madhouse Eight amongst other various tracks.

...but if you are getting faded it doesnt matter what track you are listening to, music is always more enjoyable after hitting the peace pipe.

Anything from 81/82 does it for me though...

Controversy

Vanity 6

What time is it?

1999

I love that time period regardless of being under the influence. Collectively it is his best work, imo. Especially if you consider unreleased material.

Back when I used to do psychedelics/MDMA, The Black Album was always ALWAYS on the playlist. But for herb....I tend to lean towards outtakes from '85-'89. Or Lovesexy. Thank the gods for legal weed here in Seattle.
