Pheromone Pheromone is hands down one of the most under rated under appreciated Prince songs from the 90's.
Not only does it have a killer beat but it has aged incredibly well... Honestly, Pheromone has aged better than anything on The Gold Experience album.
Under rated classic from the 90's... IMO Pheromone is one of his best songs recorded in the last 20 years. [Edited 12/20/14 9:13am]

Ohmygodyes. The combination of Pheromone and Space is one of the highlights of Prince's studio output.
And I agree about TGE sounding dated; Come has aged vastly better. In fact, beyond Shhh and I Hate U, I don't really get the appeal of TGE. [Edited 12/20/14 9:22am]

I listened to TGE for 2 days trying to get back into it, don't get me wrong some stand out songs like you said Shhh is one of my favorite Prince songs, I Hate U is one of his BEST ballads ever... But as a whole, it's creativity is undeniable, which I think many fans always praise the album... But as a whole... It's sounds very dated.

A beautiful brilliant trio, the material from 1993-1995: Prince 4Ever.

It's funny if you listen to the sound and production on Pheremone, it's stood the test of time... Even lyrically, "Now I c a tear headed down towards her smile..." A very under rated song.

How many versions of this song exist? I remember it was on the Metropolis CD-ROM in the little mixing console thing.

Since 1994, I can't name too many songs that I personally thing production wise, sound wise and overall are as inquisitive as Pheromone... That was such a dark unique song, probably the first one since Dance With The Devil...

It's an unacknowledged classic. It's bullshit that nobody outside of Prince fans knows this song. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I just got the order muddled up in my head. That said, I do think the first four tracks of Come fit together exceptionally well as a whole, it's just that the two songs I mentioned are the stand-outs in my eyes. From Papa onwards I find the album loses its momentum and doesn't fully regain it, though I still prefer it to most of TGE.

I completely agree with you... Man the first original configuration of COME would've been his best album of the 90s imo if it was released that way...

Agree 100% Pheromone is a very cool piece of music. The entire Come album has aged incredibly well. Along with The Truth, the only 90's albums I ever turn to.

Papa turns me off on that album. TGE is overrated in my opinion.

The first I heard the tune was on BET's Video LP with Donnie Simpson as host. It was cool watching people that didn't know it was a Prince song bobbing their heads to it. Some critics scoffed at the title, saying that only animals used pheromones, but more recent studies have shown that humans are also susceptible to chemical scent signals in their attraction to a mate. http://abcnews.go.com/Hea...?id=116833 "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

The critics were right, but only because humans ARE animals.

Pheromone is pure genius. In fact, the whole Come album is insanely underrated. A fantastic record. |

I agree with u, Pheromone is too under rated by Prince fans, I never hear people bring up this song or talk about it. Always hear ppl talk about TGE is the best The Rainbow Children is the best, blah blah...
Come is truely an underated album, yes there are some songs like Papa that detract from the overall greatness but there are so many great tracks, great 90's production that still don't sound dated today vs. albums like TGE and Emancipation...

Some of the early configs of Come are just insanely good. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Really? An album recorded in the mid 90's sounds like it is from the mid 90's? What a total failure...

TGE hasn't aged well IMO...

I just really don't understand this concept of saying an album sounds 'dated' .
Oh really the production sounds like 1994? Well guess what ? That's BECAUSE IT IS !!
Did you expect it to sound like 2044 production ? or 1944 ?
I just have no concept how people can say an album sounds dated.
EVERY album, every song EVER is dated, it was recorded at a specific time and nothing will ever change that, youy personal perception might be that it sounds like it is from a different time period but nothing changes the fact when it was written, recorded, produced and released...
Nothing.

it's a fair point but I suppose it comes down to what do you hear first - "wow, what a great song" or "wow, listen to that 90's production". If something sounds dated you probably have to get past the production to hear the great song, as opposed to the production helping carry the song. Just a theory.

To my ears TGE sounds overbearing and tacky as a result of its production, whilst Come doesn't. That's what I mean when I say the former hasn't aged well.
