Tambourine appreciation thread

Such a crazy and yet beloved track in my heart. I'm not sure we'll ever hear Prince perform the full track live but in the meantime:

Much love for your talent Terry Jones dancing jig

Decent song, not a standout in his discography but a cool little experimental track none the less. People are always saying it should be relegated to a b-side and replaced with She's Always In My Hair, but I've always thought that Temptation should receive that treatment instead (yeah, say what you want, I don't care razz)

Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
Always cry for love, never cry for pain...

I've always love this song especially on this album

This is one of his masturbatory songs.

Listen to it with Tick Tick Bang(1981)

I love the vocal gymnastics on this track - Prince really pushed himself on this one.

Yeah, I love this song too. One of my favourites from the ATWIAD album.

On the topic of his 'wanking songs' I always percieved Private Joy to be one. I know people like to say it's about a girl and stuff, but with stuff like 'I strangled Valentino' and 'You belong to Prince' being in there I don't know about that.

Prince used to have atleast one of these songs on his albums that proved he was crazy. Sister was his first really crazy song. Then came sexuality and parts of do me baby. Then came many of the tracks on 1999... after that he would tone it down a little bit, making it more suitable for the general public. But even then he'd occationally be too damn crazy for most people.

Tambourine, is he refering to the female... well, uh... you know... what is he referring to? My poor virginistic ears.

the main instruments:bass & drums were straight on it

the off instruments: finger cymbals & tamborine were wild. Those 2 instruments actually make the song for me, he tore up those finger cymbals.

actually I think it's about anyones sexual organ. Almost like his offbeat use of Jack U Off

If he can't play with hers, he'll play with his

.

All alone by myself
Me and I play my tamborine

Guess that I'll stay at home
All alone and play my tamborine (aww)

I know right?

I heard the 1990 version first, but when I heard the original I don't think I could ever listen to the GB version again.

Same logic and wild rawness as Tambourine

I honestly don't get why people get off on the 1981 version of Tick Tick Bang so much??

I prefer the 1990 version.

The only song from GB that I say I sort of prefer the unreleased version over the album version is 'We can funk'. It just sounds...idk...sexier haha.

Oh, my God, here you are
Prettiest thing in life I've ever seen
Close my eyes, what's it like?
What's it like inside your tamborine?

Oh, my God, there I go
Falling in love with a face in a magazine
(Uh oh, not again)
All alone, by myself
Me and I play my tamborine

Trampoline, trampoline, trampoline, trampoline

Long days, lonely nights, trampoline
Long days, lonely nights, trampoline

I don't care for one night stands
With trolley cars that juggle seventeen
I just wanna settle down
And play around my baby's tamborine

Tamborine, what are you?
Why are you the star of all my dreams?
(Star of all my dreams, are you a good tamborine?)
Are you good? Are you bad?
Are you just unnecessary means?

Trampoline, tamborine, tamborine, trolley cars

Long days, lonely nights
Too bad we're not allowed to scream
(Yeah, yeah, too bad)
Guess that I'll stay at home all alone
And play my tamborine

Tamborine, tamborine, tamborine, tamborine
The tamborine

One of my top 10 favorite Prince songs. It was amazing to me from the first moment I heard it, and it still holds up.

The rawness of the 1981 track is what attracts me to that version. It's a little more manic/aggressive in tone. The GB version has a little too much polish for my taste.

He took the original and changed it into a 'joke' for the movie. Are we supposed to like it?
What?

I really like it every time I hear it, but then I forget about it. To put it another way, it's not a track I listen to individually on my mp3 (like Paisley Park for example), but rather when I listen through to the whole album.

There are a few songs I get that with: Saviour, Love 2 the 9s, Somewhere Here On Earth, Wasted Kisses, Lavaux. I'm sure there are others, but the point is that they're all good, yet just like Tambourine, I never remember to listen to them.

Isn't he saying "trembling" not "trampoline?" He draws the word out a bit like "trem-bo-ling." Listen closely at :58. Trembling makes more sense while masturbating than trampoline, but this is Prince we're talking about.

Too true. The playful tone is something that we don't get to hear too much of anymore. nod

It's a great fun track. Seems like it inspired George Michael's 1990 "Fantasy" b-side track. Listen to them back to back!

lol especially in the scene it was placed. Even in GB it was sorta taken as a joke
