I'm planning on going! This is Quentin Tarantino's theater.

It's quite possible this is Tarantino's personal 35mm print. He likes to screen from his own collection.

I once went to see this three times in the same day.

why dont a few fans get together and rent out a theatre and play the new CDs and his movies ?

I'm gonna have to make it to this one even though I just bought the blu ray in August.

Damn that sounds like it would be bloody awesome. Would have loved to attend.

This movie turned me into a huge fan much more than Purple Rain for some reason. I was also amazed at how few people were in the theater. Most of my life I have felt that nobody around me appreciated Prince, which made me like him even better. Would be cool to see it again on the big screen.

I'd been a big fan for a few years when this came out. It amazed me! I was too young to understand that it was basically a staged concert with live audience shots spliced in (very well produced in that manner), but I don't think I needed to know that. This concert film showcased everything that was electric about him right at the peak of his early years. The guitar playing floored me, Prince's dances (and especially his splits) mezmerized me, the band was kicking, and for it being my first "live" performance, I was so sold. The way he stretched out Forever In My Life and the way Beautiful Night seemed to go on forever, all this and so much more, and I just ate it up. I got the Prince & the Revolution LIVE from Syracuse tape and watched both of those pretty much every day.

Same here! I saw it in theatres and there were only about 5 people in the theatre.I didn't care,though.That movie blew me away I was literally dancing in my seat,especially when Prince launched into "Housequake".

Concert films appeal only to diehard fans and this film had a hasty release with very little promotion.That's probably why it wasn't a bigger box office success.

I'm hoping there's a little crowd at the screening in LA.

It was sweet seeing it at the Uptown theater in Minneapolis 10 years ago or so but full size it was very obvious that he was lip synching and that much of it was done in the soundstage. Much more obvious than it ever was on my video taped copy. Was this ever released on DVD officially?

^^It's still hard to believe that so much of the footage from this tour couldn't be used in the actual concert film.I was surprised to learn that Prince bascially had to re-film the entire show at Paisley Park (using the live vocal recordings).

It's out officially on DVD and Blu-ray but ordered from Canada or Japan or Australia distributors.

I'm going Friday I think (it's also playing Saturday). Sometimes Tarantino is even there and likes to mingle and talk about the film. "No pictures or autograph requests allowed."

I had no idea Prince was a master thespian. He captures the talent, the emotion, the troubles, the spirit, the experience, the truth, the lies, the meaning and the purpose, folds it into a context that amplifies it's profundity and presents a sign for the times. Unfortunately, I now have more questions and no answers, and I am overly convinced that Prince is a bit of a loon but, on the bright side I am still in love with the tunes.

FYI the show was a Prince/Hendrix double feature. I was eagerly anticipating staying for part of the 1977 Jimi Plays Berkeley film afterwards. The Hendrix footage I saw showed an interesting perspective that oddly enough ties in an eerie socio-historical dialogue that gives me the impression that Jimi Hendrix was probably a tool. He has some great and inspired music when taken out of the context/setting. His music (Hendrix), within the context of the film, seemed mis-directed and over-burdened.

The '87 SOTT film shared a similar socio-historical dialogue. SOTT's discourse however, uses religion as a foundation for exploring the human condition. Messages of uplift and redemption, which I assume are within the SOTT interpretive dialogue, seemed to be crowded by their delivery.

Ultimately both films present artists, who in my opinion, were trying to provoke some level of activist judgment or jugment followed by activism. Unfortunately, it's not clear whether either artist really knew how, or even cared about how their dialogue would be interpreted.

BTW SOTT is a fun film.
