Under The Cherry Moon wasn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be. The costuming was great and Parade is without a doubt my favorite Prince album. I love Alexis De Paris. I actually had a friend in college who was an extra in the movie. She was in the restaurant scene where Prince and Tricky are sitting together at a table talking and Tricky says to Prince, "Are u afraid to die?" and Prince replies, "I ain't afraid of shit!" Then Tricky asks Prince, "Are you afraid of bats?" and Prince screams and everyone comes running out of the restaurant.

Emma Samms would have been a good choice.She was an actress on Dynasty at the time.I also wonder if Sheena Easton could have played the role.

I loved it and actually prefer it to Purple Rain...not that it's "better", I just prefer it. But I've always wondered how much better UTCM would have been with Morris Day in the role of Christopher Tracy.

I love the part where Prince and Tricky were at Mary's house with the ladder to climb up to Mary's window and (of course) he climbs in the wrong one lol

I think this movie would have done better if it had been in color.The 80s was a fun,colorful decade.A romantic comedy in black and white was a tough sell.

i wish i could find one of the DVD box sets with Purple Rain, Graffitti Bridge , SOTT & UTCM...the same way Walmart & Target sell those Judd Apatow DVD box sets with Superbad, Get Him To The Greek & Knocked up..

I like it too, if not for anything, showcasing Prince's quirky sense of humor. And his willingness to challenge tropes of black masculinity with those bathroom scenes with Tricky was quite bold.

the Christopher Tracy character should not have died at the end I don't like that part.That death scene is ridiculous.

A terrible film that only hardcore Prince fanatics could like. I've never been able to finish it. At least Graffiti Bridge is an interesting failure. This movie is just boring.

I got to see it twice during its short run at the cinema, and I could never get in sync with the movie channels that would show this now and then. But then in 95, I bought the movie from the 1800NEWFUNK site, and it was waiting for me when I got home from my first trip to SF. I idolized this film. It didn't feature the band, had shallow, unlikeable/unrelatable characters, and was generally full of what we would otherwise call "bad acting." Only Prince could get away with a film like this. But for me, this was what made the film so fun. There's so many little nuggest of goodness in it, from the piano sequences, to the dialogue, to the scenery, and especially the sound score. To hear "Mary" pick up the drums and play that short solo was EVERYTHING. The instrumental version of "Mia Bocca" included here, as well as the drums to "Wonderful Day," the fake-out battle between Christopher Tracy and Jerome when they do that chocolate/butterscotch...all this and about a hundred other things...My favorite of his three films.

The critics were not kind.I remember one scathing review where the writer actually said....

"in black and white,Prince begins to remind you of something that your biology teacher made you dissect"
