No Remasters

So let me get this straight... In Prince's 35 plus career not one album has been remastered or reissued except:

Dirty Mind

1999

Purple Rain

which were all recently remastered in 2011 for HQ 180gVINYL release only...

I guess we will see what the future holds since he acquired his masters back from WB and the speculation of a reissue for Purple Rain which should have come out already...

Is he one of the only artists of his caliber and legacy to have no reissues or remasters yet??

It was really just Prince and Bruce Springsteen... and now Bruce Springsteen has released a box that offers his most significant albums remastered.... Prince is really the only one. And yes, it's B.S. that we didn't get the promised Purple Rain Deluxe re-issue in its anniversary year, but I'm thinking Prince made that decision to delay it because of the release of his other (new) albums...

I believe Purple Rain reissue is coming by next fall...

I think what happened was when WB gave Prince's remasters back there was a deal for a PR reissue, Prince agreed but I think he only agreed if WB would release PE and AOA first and I think that's why PR reissue is delayed. We know it's coming because in the interview Prince said he was working on it "same album just better sound for the fans..." The only thing we don't know is WHEN...

I haven't properly investigated yet, but the Springsteen set, while obviously containing some brilliant music, seems rather disappointing insofar as it doesn't look like it contains any additional tracks or outtakes whatsoever. Remastered sound is always nice, but if Prince did the same thing it would kinda suck. The new reissue of The Velvet Underground's third lp looks incredibly lavish in comparison, 6 discs and a book, hope I get that for Christmas cool

I have a feeling that this will be just as underwhelming as the recent 3EG release. I mean if he's really not into releasing this it's only going to hurt the end product. Cause let's be honest, if there are absolutely no extra tracks, everyone here will be p!ssed, myself including.

.

While I hope it's what all the die hards here are hoping for, I think no matter what comes out, everyone here will still be disappointed.

.

I think you guys are really setting yourself up for a major disappointment they way you guys keep harping on & on about it constantly.

.

Ya, I agree with you, it should've been released forever ago but it hasn't. We have 30+ albums of mostly great material, let's enjot it. How many PR remaster threads do we really need?

Fair point, but Bruce has released some pretty cool box sets in the past, like Tracks, Born To Run 30 and The Promise.

I don't see why everyone's hung up on a particular "anniversary year". Next year will be an anniversary year too. Are we that fascinated with big round zeroe? It'll come out when it comes out.

The initial press release never said anything was coming out in 2014.

Genesis does not have quite the amount of albums that Prince does (they probably have a dozen) but they solved their remaster schedule by releasing them in 3 phases. Each phase had a box set as well as individual releases at the same time.

.

Prince could do the remasters in waves of 4-6 albums at a time.

1978-1984: From beginning to superstardom

1985-1988: New directions from Prince (tongue-in-cheek reference to NEWS)

1989-1992: Commercial comeback

The rest would obviously be up in the air because of the name change, but you get the idea.
