Dead On It beat & guitar Musically, Dead On It is on point. That rhythm guitar is some of the funkiest stuff he's ever done. It's too bad that the lyrics don't hold up their end of the bargain. Sure, there are some funny lines, but overall it's a bit of a throwaway. Oh well. I'm sure enjoying the heck out of the funk though. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I don't know why people rag on this song, I think it's fantastic and definitely not a throw away in my book. I'd like to see a video of this song "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Dead On It and Dance On, I have always loved for the off beat complexity the guitar riffs and sparse bass hits

"Shall we go back? Let's go..." I love the way he says that line. And it basically introduces the guitar riff to the song. Good stuff. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Negro's from Brooklyn play the Bass pretty good- But the ones from Minneoapolis play it like it oughta should!

Back in the day, I used to think that line was "Nick Rhodes from Brooklyn play the bass very good" and remember thinking, "Nick Rhodes plays keyboards, and he's from England!"
(I was also into Duran Duran)

I have always considered that line a tip of the hat to Bernard Edwards. Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

I love that this track is getting some appreciation. It's some straight up bassy funk.

IDK, NY was the world's capital city of hip-hop in 86 (hell! was there even hip-hop anywhere else at the time?) so I think this was just that. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
