Sadly, this is one of the things he always wanted but it hasn't happen. And that's he being responsible for a dance craze/fad. Murph Drag,The Bird, Horny Pony, really???? There are other instances but I can't think if them at the moment. He wanted his moonwalk.

Probably because it wasn't as popular as those songs mentioned, it wasn't a single. The songs mentioned were hit songs for those artist. There wasn't a lot of airplay for Houseqauke except for the RnB stations. Prince (even then wasn't that great at promoting his albums, almost as bad as today). No videos for SOTT & If I Was Your Girlfriend. But here in America (in the Black clubs ppl get up when they hear "Shut Up Already"). The song is banger & it jams harder then all the songs mentioned, altho Thriller bass line is just crazy, I never listen to that song (when I listen to that album) but when it's a mix, it jams, the other songs mentioned weren't really club songs but they were popular pop songs. Now that 12 inch mix of Housequake really rocks.

Erotic City used to be a huge club hit over here up until the late 90s...the same goes for Gett Off.

Housequake has never been one of my favorite songs, let alone a club song.

I stand by my statement that Prince has not done "dance music" (ie a music that is played in a dance club) since the disco era. thats ok. Its not his thing.

I never cared for Housequake much. The Camille voice on this one seems kind of out-of-place and annoying and the music is just really, really sparse. It's the 'classic' James Brown kind of funk but not extremely energetic. I dunno.

Orgers claim the people they show it to love it but Ive had the opposite experience. It definitely would have bombed as a single. Too 'weird' and people wouldn't have liked it much. It's an album track.

Yeah same here, I wish he had his own special dance. Closest that came to it was the 'licking hands, baby step' dance from IWD4U

Nah,this song would have been HUGE as a single it's so catchy and fun,I bet it would have reached Number One on the R&B charts and made the Pop Top 10 charts easily.

Nothing else dropped. There's a few I could live without but no more that I don't like.

I do know at the time that people around me that weren't into Prince thopught that track was very cool. I remember one stoner turning it up when it was cuaght on the radio dial, and saying check it out... I don't even think he knew it was Prince. This was in 1987.

It was by far my favorite track on the album, with the title track a very close second.
