Prince covering other peoples songs, favourites?

With the cover of Alices Smith's Another love being discussed, what do you feel are the best

Prince cover versions by him of other peoples songs? Live and studio versions.

Whole lotta love and best of you have to be some of the greater live covers in my opinion. biggrin

I like his Santana Medley, does that count. His version of Johnny B Goode from that awesome Indigo aftershow slays as well.

I was about to say "Just my imagination" too. I like his version of "Betcha by golly wow" as well.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Studio wise - Crimson & Clover.

Live - Just My Imagination / I Believe in You / A Case of You (at the Benefit show) / Edit: I forgot Creep.

Whole Lotte Love, I absolutely love Led Zep and P give new colours to a song that is already a masterpiece.

For other reasons I like One of Us too; not so much for the song itself but because Prince seems very moved by this song.

Live, it has to be Villanova Junction and Stratus. As far as the studio tracks..I've always loved the covers on Emancipation (But I'm the dude that loves Emancipation more than all y'all)....One of Us is a great cover. His last solo KILLS it.

But, seriously....if he busted out Villanova Junction at an Aftershow that I'm at, I'll freak the f out.

Love changes by far my favorite. Funny I was just thinking of starting a similar thread. I was listening to ONA Chicago boot and fondly thinking back to that time period. Seems like P really started to do full on sets of covers on this tour. Does anyone know when Prince started doing covers in his shows...I'm thinking post Emancipation?

This can't be.
Prince is against this kind of thing. He would never.

"A Case Of You", all versions.

The Santana stuff he played on the guitar sounded great too, better than any of the Sly Stone stuff he's covered, for example.
