Could be maintenance / housekeeping, could be consolidation to one portal, and possibly an indication that Warners might like something more coherent and 'branded' to link in with Purple Rain re-issue. Also, if NPG Twitter is gone too then that would point to consolidation rather than scorched earth.

Dr F hasn't commented to say he has no comment or doesn't know as yet so imagine there is method to this particular madness.

Strangely enough a couple of days ago a new video was posted to the princevevo channel on YT, where videos had been posted when Prince was on Kobalt. Breakfast Can Wait is still there, too.

Many Prince fans were shocked this morning when they discovered that the ‘official’ Prince and 3rd Eye Girl twitter account was no more!

@3rdEyeGirl had been a major outlet and source for ‘official’ Prince and 3rd Eye Girl info, including tour announcements, for Prince fans but it seems, for now, that account has been pulled.

Why?

Could it be that Prince has decided to pull the plug on 3rd Eye Girl, possibly in light of a new project? Could it be that the Twitter outlet had become, not only a major outlet and PR machine, but also a bit of a headache, what with the whole Toronto gig fiasco last month, was it too much to maintain and do right?
Was it always the plan to phase out the @3rdEyeGirl account in favour of the most recently added, and still active, @Purplessence account?

I’ll guess we will never know the true reason behind @3rdEyeGirl’s disappearance, band members Hannah Ford Welton, Ida Nielson and Donna Grantis still remain active on their personal accounts so maybe you should keep locked there for any further info regarding 3EG.

Our guess, Prince has disabled the account while he works on his new project, a more funk/jazz/soul based record alongside NPGQ.

I hope he rejoins or puts his pages back up. It was so great to have a little insight into his purple world. If people are giving him hate for his hair then fuck em. The guy can do what the hell he wants with his hair.

Thank god. Was growing tired of all of their banal posts showing up in my facebook news feed and links to the same 3 videos. And the constant linking to positive reviews from 2-12 months prior. It was pretty shameless.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that Prince has the sacred right to not love Facebook or youtube and make the choice to not publish his work on the net. As fan I'm, in some way, disappointed but I would be more disappointed if he stops to make albums or live shows where human beings, Prince included, are in the same place and not behind a monitor, celebrating Art.

Consolidation folks, why have two accounts? Makes sense to have one, he is hoping all the followers from 3rdeyegirl will sub to purpleessence, there were only like 2k over there, where 3rdeye had about 180k.

Maybe this is the end of the 3rdEyeGirl era. He's crazy enough to do it, a mere few months after the debut album.

Honestly, I'm ashamed to say I hope that's the case. 3rdEyeGirl are stale.
