The problem for me is that Rock 'n' Roll is really something I think is for the young to produce and to consume. I know folks who say many artist actually do their best stuff when they're older, but I disagree. I think the immediacy of younger acts points to most of their best stuff happening around 25 to 35 years of age.

The problem is that younger artists aren't outrageously talented these days. I mean, what does Taylor Swift offer the world that really needs to be heard? Nothing.

But, how does AOA add that is rememberable to Prince's body of work? Nothing much, either.

Speaking of old folks, spoken as one.

I listen to the new stuff out there and AOA fits very nicely. Maybe you don't and that is your right, nbut also your own problem.

Art Official Age is a delicious record for anyone who likes Prince and doesn't look down on contemporary music. Sure, it's like Prince channelling Janelle, but that is exactly what Prince should be doing as a longtime lover of all things soul, rnb and funk.

Maybe others are like: oh Prince is too good to channel Janel. No he isn't. He's not a relic, and that 's what I like best about Art Official Age : he proves he also does not think he's a relic and is not above paying homage to his contemporaries.

Oh man, I remember those times, buying a Prince album the first day of release (specially Sign 'o' the Times and Lovesexy), real excitement, but those days are long gone.

spit Old?

.

Part of getting old is slowing down and becoming more mellow. Considering that the majority of "Fart Official Age" is a dull midtempo snoozefest, it seems that Prince is the one getting older. Actually, he seems to be trying to please a younger generation who have all gotten old before their time and have the tastes of senior citizens. Hell, I'm too young for all that slow dull mess. I'm far from being ready to sit down and mellow out. I've still got a lot of shake left in my ass. lol

Andy is a four letter word.

I have all but stopped listening to it.

Album is good, but not memorable.

There is not one song enchanting me so much.

I still think 3121 has been his last all around decent album.

But, different strokes to move the world.

We are all so full of doody here

You're not the only one. Im guilty as sin. The reason i haven't brought it though, is because I'm financially stretched 2 the limit and can't afford it. I just made a pretty major move and that has taken up about 99.9% of my finances.

I will be buying both albums ASAP though.

I really do wish that Mr Rogers would do some Remastering of the old stuff and (or)release some of the goodies in the vault though.

Just thinking about that, gets the juces flowing

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

3121 was the last time I got real excited. Loved everything about that era. For AOA I swore I would hate because the snippets did not sound good, but it surprised me. Maybe thats the new thing now. Hate it first then you wont be dissappointed. razz

well said....i have to agree. this is what is being done right now and all prince did was play to the mainstream to get some shine time. he can do this at will whenever he wants to, and i think its badass. is it easier for him? most definitely. he's not reinventing the wheel, but he doesnt have to. anytime he feels like it he can decide to jump into the fray. good for him for not being the old man waving his old school funk stick (even tho i love old school funk!) he gave them what younger people are listening to ...madonna did the same with mdna...

you're an idiot,

Art Official Age is a strong album, Prince's best in many years...

Now go out and buy it and support the artist. cool

The album is shit, except for 3 tracks. It's the first album I haven't bought, and I'm a hardcore fan since 1988. Don't support shit music.

Exactly.
Or dead.

Everybody cross your fingers on the one.

As for the excitement, I know what you're talking about,
in my teens I was going to the wrecka stow every week to see what new maxi-single/b-side or side project was out.

Nonetheless, you have to admit that the whole music industry has changed radically, and the excitement of having :

1 - a release date

2 - the first single out of an album

3 - a video

4 - a physical object, with a record sleeve with lyrics (or not, damn you Parade)

5 - A beautiful artwork in all it's 12 inches glory

...is long gone.

Recorda Industria esta muerta.
