The music industry has changed. Too many people download instead of purchasing music. Record sales does not equate to quality. As long as Prince still produces quality music, I don't care how well his albums sell. Too many people on this site worry about popularity.

I´m not surprsied about any of these, except for Ultimate and AOA.
Ultimate is really great and i wish he did more of this 12"collections. AOA is his best in years, Clouds was a cool single, but well, he´s 55 now. Ain´t no selling at 55.

Not that fair to compare when only one album sold a million in 2014. Physical sales of music are hard to get in this age of digital music, streaming and illegal downloads. I am sure when you add the downloads, itunes sales and illegal bootleg downloads, AOA must be approaching a million. . Explanations for low figures 1. Crappy album with very limited release at concerts and NPGMC etc. do you ever remember it in a wrekkas stow 2. Its been out three months and is the lesser of the two 3. As above, too new in the post physical sales period. 4. Again poorly promted by Warners, Prince had his own product Rave and 1999 New master at same time. weak album, 1999 possibly nadir of Prince to his fans and public. 5. Again major cock up with NPG distribution and limited store sales belatedly. Plus its 4 or 5 CD's costs money to buy. 6. Very limited release, and the million copues given away were not counted. 7. Limited release again and a crappy overrall album, many fans refused to buy it as they do not appreciate preaching and dogma in his music. 8. Released under a cloud, little promotion kiss off to Warners, Prince busy hyping Emancipation. 9. Just a crap album, the fact it sold this many is a revelation. Possibly lowest genuinely deserved sale. The fact it sold 400k speaks volumes on his quality. 10. Again poorly promoted and Prince had a good selling album of his own out, plus it was one disk of previously released hits we all had ad nauseaum. . Basically all the others went gold or more says how good he is. Everyone has stink sales, I mean how many copies of the new Michael Jackson album have sold? - Fuck all thats how many, I saw the deluxe 2 disc version with DVD for $5.99 and still refused to buy it. . Prince has been releasing albums since the 1970s and the fact he can still chart new ones with no promotion speaks volumes on his durability, compare that to recent artists like Bieber who has disappeared and the average rapper or boyband who does not last beyond 3 albums at most. I am sorry Feeluup I like most of your threads, but this is mean spirited. I mean how many albums have you sold? Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I have bought all these albums. I am about to rebuy some of them after losing quite a bit of my collection. I wish his whole catalog was available to purchase online. Love41Another 💜

Rave In2? One Nite Alone piano? ONA Live box set? Indigo Nights? Would be surprised if any of these sold much more than NEWS

No RIAA figures on those. None of them cracked the Billboard Top 200.

I can't believe that "One Nite Alone Live" sold more than 500,000 units--based on price, availability, and imterest. What is the source of these numbers?

Some great albums in there, and the collapse of album sales, which are hitting an all time low in 2014, needs to be factored. There are less than 5 million albums being sold weekly in the US, and legions of acts are not reaching the 100,000 first week mark, including big names that play the promotional game to the max. The AOA figure is actually decent for an album that rode mostly on his reputation and hints at what may have been if he had actually promoted the records the normal way with videos and tv interviews left and right.

It sure did not sell 500,000.
It didn't even crack the TOP 200 when it was released. There are not even any RIAA figures for ONA Live.

You're misleading people here, in fact more than 30 albums sold more than one million in 2014. http://www.mediatraffic.d...s-2014.htm And this list is only based on time on the global top 40. In fact RAM of DAFT PUNK sold more than a million this year It's a silly idea to count illegal bootlegs.

Who really cares though? As long as the fans are listening to it what does it matter to us?

7. RAINBOW CHILDREN is reported to have sales of 520.000 according to NPGMC (there was even advertising on french television for the album in 2003 !) 8. ULTIMATE sold about 300 in the US, and about 350 k in the UK. So it's most likely sold about one million worldwide.

it's a topic about sales, if you don't bother why are you posting on it ? Who cares about the numerous topic here "what is your favourite top ten" etc ? There is one almost everyday !
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes I agree, trying to defend this moronic topic, who cares how many albums he has sold. As long as we the fans can buy them and he makes them, who gives a fuck. . Feeluup along with King Sausage have been responsible for a range of negative topics and inane Top 10 ones in the past month and we are just sick of them. Dude if you think he can't sell albums, and he sucks, why even be a fan honestly. Yes I answer and compose critical threads too, but I also praise him, lusten to him and try to get something out of the music. Plus there is serial hater Rodserling or whatever his name is, who sprinkles his gloom troll dust over everything, seriously all of you get a life and stop being so depressing. . I mean if Prince had released 50 albums, and all had got mumber 1 beating Bieber, Swift and every other squeaky voice pop artist, shit hopper, ra and sleaze singer or nu metal group with 20 million of each album sold, you would still be whinging. The numbers are very low and are obviously the lowest they could find of each, they still have not announced their source, so I suspect this baiting bullshit. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm pretty sure everybody on the org absolutely love Prince. There should be room for everyone here : those who cares about sales and the others. You have no right to decide what topic should be closed, just because a topic doesn't interest you in the first place. There are way more ininteresting topic here than this one. tehre is even a topic where a guy ask everybody to learn him how to listen EMANCIPATION ! And some guys give him their ideal tracklist Yes, i'm not joking.

I'm sorry, but your post is completely full of nonsense, intolerance and...don't you have anything else to do in your life ? I don't see the point between quality and sales. But what I don't get, is why some people are interested with tastes from others they don't even know "in the real world". Please, explain that to me, why are there so many "what are your favourite top ten" ? I don't understand that, but because i'm open-minded, I can conceive it, that other people have different hobbies than me when it's concerning Prince. Ifrankly don't care if you love the albums of Prince I love, I prefer in a forum, focusing on facts. There are even topic about prince's hair, girlfriend, etc. What does it make to you if Prince fucked this girl or another ? Or if Prince wears a wig or not ? Or if he really slapped Sinead O CONNOR in the face ? What does it make to you when Prince posted on twitter of facebook for telling bullshits that had no sense at all ? Please do what you want, and let others people do what they want. FIXURLIFEUP [Edited 1/2/15 5:45am] [Edited 1/2/15 5:47am]

I created one "negative" topic about Prince being obsolete, and losing his commercial following. If you check the other threads I have created they have garnered some of the most discussion.

Common, The post that I quoted from you didn't talk about the music industry at all ! Ok, sales are decreasing for some, they are increasing for others (singles sales exploded for instance, msuci video sales too)...and ? Why is it forbidden to make such a top ten ? [Edited 1/2/15 6:36am]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's simply no true. Spotify pays 0.7 cents per stream, Happy was streamed 55 million time, that's $385,000 in royalties paid by Spotify for the song Happy.

Pirating albums has always existed. it's not new. I don't understand why it should be more convenient now than 20 years ago. I remember when I was 14, I was already buynig CD pirates of Eminem and Daft Punk. If you could find the number streaming views, make it a top ten, until then actual sales are still what is more accurate now.
