Melbourne zines Fulsome Prism and You talk about Purple Rain plus offer FREE cover album

.

What better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain than with a Prince-themed zine and tribute compilation? And what better way to launch said zine and comp than with a bunch of bands covering Prince songs?

.

Tackling the highs and lows (and personal impact) of Prince’s iconic film, song and album, the split issue of Melbourne zinesFulsome Prism and You is a fantastic read and comes cheap at just $5.

.

As for the comp, that’s actually up for free download and features a whole lot of liberal, noisy interpretations of tunes like ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, ‘When Doves Cry’ and of course ‘Purple Rain’. It’s crazy in the best possible way.

.

Many of the artists featured on the comp are playing at its free launch tonight (Nov 20) at Bar Open, including The Casuist, The Church of Hysteria, Colostomy Baguette?, Miles Cosmo & Gemma Flack, Plastic Knife, Shallow, Slow Process and The Artist Formerly Known As The Thomas Ferguson Band. The suggested dress code is “purple wake”; more info here.

.

Anybody got this zine?

.

Every once in a while you'll hear about some horrible tragedy to a family that makes you go hug your kids...

After I listened to these I went and hugged my Prince collection...(I even whispered "I love you, too" to NewPowerSoul)...

"3123...that's next door to where the party be..."
