This isn't, like, hidden or anything, but it seems Prince's performance of 'Purple Rain' somehow manages to resolve at least FOUR plot lines in the movie:

1. He impresses the manager of the club, so that he gets to keep his gig.

2. He makes nice with Wendy and Lisa by playing their song.

3. He dedicates the song to his father, so I guess it's somehow honoring him too.

4. He wows Apollonia and wins her back (presumably).

.

Any others? I guess my questions is, IS THERE ANYTHING PRINCE PLAYING 'PURPLE RAIN' CAN'T SOLVE?

Besides bad acting, I mean.

5) He shuts Morris up and knocks him down a peg or two

6) He turns a crowd from "we're gonna enjoy watching you die tonight" to "WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!!"

OK there is some overlap here but why not.

7. He breaks through Jill Jones's tough-as-nails exterior and makes her cry.

He clears the deck of the outstanding issues so he can bring out the wank guitar in Baby I'm a Star.

The wank guitar helped me through High School. Speaking of wank...I'm hoping someday to see the infamous "barnyard" scene that was cut from Purple Rain, so it didn't get an X-Rating. We only see snipets of it on the Purple Rain trailer, and When Doves Cry video.

Apollonia 6 was always the new entry . . . the battle was between the guy groups. I always assumed The Time was kicked out.

The "Morris is squeezin' you" line from Billy made it sound like the battle was really between The Time and The Kid/Revolution. Seeing as how the Modernaires aren't even part of the story, it makes sense . . .

I think the point was that the song Purple Rain and the following I Would Die 4U and Baby I'm A Star won them over THAT much.
