So let's talk about The Flesh!!!

No thread!!!? I mean c'mon a full unreleased album, 1985, a precursor to the Madhouse concept, Eric, Wendy & Lisa... I thought there'd be 12 threads about it awready lol

.

Of note is that it's one of few recordings where Prince acts as the drummer in a band. I mean we have loads of recordings where he plays the drums with himself, but here he's the drummer of the band and that gives a whole new dynamic to his playin' and the music as a whole if u ask me. Also shows how hectic hos drum playing is, he always sound kinda one second ahead of everyone else, as if the band was strugglin' to follow him and the music was a race biggrin

.

It was my holy grail so I'm kinda more than happy to be able to hear it at long last (I can die, now!). I reserve, as always, my judgement for after some time but overall it's a grower and I really, really, dig it, only frustration in the end being that it's so short (30 mn) and that I already knew one song from the set (woulda loved to discover it as a whole on a first listen!). It would definitely deserve an official release!

.

How y'all groovin'?

.

AS ALWAYS SO SOLICITATIONS WHERE CAN I FIND IT LINKS OR SHIT OR BE BANNED TO HELL!!

A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

The thread was deleted...

Anyway amazing instrumentals, the most funkiest jam sessions... Too bad these weren't turned into sounds, would've fit really well with any Dream Factory, Crystal Ball or Sign O' The Times album.

Junk Music. This is really music for drums. The rest is almost just a backdrop. Wendy is really out of her depht.

I don't know where to look, and I don't care that much.

IIRC I have heard some songs from The Flesh sessions some years ago, and they were bad.

I agree that this is all about the drummer... And boy does Prince beat the hell outta those skins. He is not a time keeper here at all. He is playing lead.

Check Princevault for full credits, + it's quite obvious anyway, it's his typical and quite unique drumplaying signature.

I don't think I'm going to be able to get past Junk Music for awhile. It won't stop kicking me right upside the ass. The rhythm section is positively frightening. LEVI!!

Up from Below reminds me of one of the N.E.W.S. tracks... or should I say one of the N.E.W.S. tracks reminds me of Up from Below. (I think maybe "North"?) Just the tempo probably, but the general approach too.

I wonder who leaked this. It's been one of the longest talked about, unheard albums. I mean, how does it leak now after all these years?

I mean, who would have a copy of this in this quality and just now release it?

Yeah, I felt the same thing about Up From Below, but I love it.

Also, feel like a section of Junk Music reminds me of one of the Madhouse 16 tracks. Maybe 10?

Wendy sounds good. I mean she's not shredding. Just rhythm. Levi just jumped a few steps in the bass department. JESUS. And prince's drumming is fantastic

Funny, when I first heard Junk Music I thought "Sheila is really stealing the attention here!" and "Prince couldn't have played like that", but now that I'm reminded of it, he is indeed credited by the people that have done research on this project for playing the drums.

Yeah, Wendy's guitar playing isn't that great on it or on the reprise, but she's not known for her improvisatory skills. I thought her licks sounded "Purple Rain"-ish at several points, which creates a nice contrast with the rest of the music.

You could be thinking of C-Note too. There are two tracks on it that start in a similar manner.

Thanks. In the former thread I indeed mentioned CNote song but didn't had time to dive into which one.

I'm really excited about this 'release' and also would love to pay for it to the artists involved.

Earlier I mentioned getting a kickstarter up for joining forces a fanbase to get enough money to get Prince's attention.
