That's a tough competition. The Revolution is iconic -- they're band on his top selling album and in the big movie. The SotT/Lovesexy band was the band for two of the greatest tours ever. Both are on three albums. The Revolution are on more tracks on their albums. I gotta go with SotT/Lovesexy: Livesexy and Small Club are triumphant moments and show skills beyond the Revolution. But both are great. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

By miles the SOTT-Lovesexy band. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Technically the Sign o the Times album is connected with the Revolution (outside of Dr Fink Eric & Atlanta Bliss) the SOTT tour band isn't the SOTT album

As far as the creative experience, and band chemistry I give it to the Revolution I don't think the 1987-1989 band had the kind of songwriting/creative flow with Prince that foundation is extremely important. These are my 2 favorite bands in my favorite period Outside of Boni & Cat these 2 bands were jamming together since 1984 like at the 1985 AMA's... Even Cat said the Revolution was her favorite band

The NPG lineup from Musicology kills all Prince bands - case closed

Thank you. I tried to argue the good fight, but Michael Dean, Big Sexy and Sean Hill wouldn't hear it. To me, the SOTT-Lovesexy band were just a crisper and more versatile band than the Revolution and the stage presentation was far superior.

This is a tough one...I gotta say it's a draw. Why? By FAR, The Revolution made the best music of Prince's career! Now when it comes to performing live, The Sign O the Times-Lovesexy band kills the Revolution live. Perhaps I'm biased, because I feel Purple Rain and Sign O the Times are Prince's best two albums (and films) ever! [Edited 11/18/14 20:41pm]

the Lovesexy Band is the best band that Prince ever had.I saw the Lovesexy show in Oakland and it was truly the best concert I've ever seen. There was a real "magic" that Prince and this band had.I don't think he's been able to capture it with any of the bands that came after.

Mico, Sheila, Bliss, and Eric are all on the album, as well as Fink of course. So it's everybody except Bonnie, Cat, and Levi. It speaks to the overlap of the two bands. Bliss and Eric are on more tracks than anybody else, and those two were minimally involved in the Revolution but a key part of the SotT/Lovesexy band. Yes, SotT grew from an aborted Revolution album, but Prince clearly had a new direction in mind, with Eric, Sheila, and Bliss all on the album and all to play major roles in the next couple of years. Nothing to disagree about I said as well (outside of Dr Fink Eric & Atlanta Bliss) technically Sheila is only on It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night. Sheila didn't play/sing anything else on that album. . I just saying technically it's not a 1987-1988 band album the way the Black Album & Lovesexy is.

outside of some behind the scenes stuff I don't think they would have lasted much longer, Sheila E's issues with Cat, Boni's issues with Prince I love the Lovesexy band though, I think I prefer the SOTT lineup/stage set

Sheila's issues with Cat? Please elaborate.

She was asked on her facebook about those times and she talked about how jealous Sheila E was when it came to Prince(I didn't know until recently that he proposed to her) Cat said Sheila was pretty rude to her a lot. She was hot n cold to her. Probably the onstage time she had with Prince that Sheila used to have... and the sexual play onstage. But I was a bit shocked at first hearing it, but even reading Sheila's book I can see what was happening to her back then.
