Starfish and coffee is quite similar to songs like Yellow Submarine and Lucy in the sky with Diamonds. They are classics and very written little songs. Prince is no Bob Dylan, that's for sure, but IMO he is an excellent song writer. He can write very serious, profound songs and very simple songs. A great song writer has the skill to go from simplistic to profound on the same cd.
And yes I agree, Chronic must really be Rick James. | |

The objective of good songwriting is not to try to pack it with every chord known to man, with 99 key changes, but to creatively, interestingly and simply get across and deliver a musical and lyrical idea. I think Prince does that. Release It! | |
