Prince should embrace You Tube

Every historic artist, for the most part,
Has tons of live & unreleased music on you tube.
By doing this, those musicians can gain new fans..
Who never knew anything about their music.
I watched that Prince concert from 1982 thinking to myself.
"It's frustrating that there's not a ton of more shit
From him on you tube".
Seeing Prince in his prime back from 1980 to 88 live would be such
A joy to see on there. Just Imagine a 10 yr old who is new
To music watching a "purple rain concert" etc on that site.
i believe Prince would gain even more respect from people.
They would see what a great live performer & artist he is all
Around..Especially the vast amount of amazing songs from his vault as well.

I just think it would cement Prince's legacy even more around the world.

Prince not adapting to the usage of social media especially YouTube is what's killing and what will kill his legacy. Period.

I agree 100% that Prince should embrace You Tube. If not You Tube he should have an offical website with his videos and performances displayed. I wanted to purchase all of his videos for my ipod but I couldn't find any videos of him on iTunes. Not having access to your favorite singers music and videos really hurts cry

Prince should offer a free concert to Google headquarters and have them stream it live to youtube. Then advertise the launch of his youtube channel during the broadcast. Youtube could invite all of their biggest vloggers and content providers to get as much traffic to the live stream as possible.

Prince probably believes being rare or less accessible to the general public makes him more valuable to different media outlets. His restraint is actually commendable because he can get on any tv show or work with any artist he wants.

I think Prince not being on YouTube has cost him MILLIONS of fans... And I'm not overestimating... It's a fan breeding ground and if every live performance and music video was on there it would be brilliant for new fans and old to discover and become bigger fans.. With the new pay service he maybl spring up... Google see making some big changes / one huge one is blocking free download links and with all the bad press about Spotify things could be turning around..

I'm in agreement. There's money in clicks, and a livestreamed concert would #breaktheinternet ...

A livestreamed concert could require the purchase of the album through a YOUTUBE link to be able to access the livestream

Strive

Prince should launch PrinceTube. Put up the Guitar video and a few live clips. $0.77 a view.

He'd knock Google right on their butt.

Yes how hard can it be to just put up an official website and sell all videos/albums there? and yes Prince should embrace YouTube but he's a control freak, it will never happen sad

now that he's reportedly got his masters and his publishing all to himself, he could set up

shop somewhere online and sell his entire discography from 1979-2014 in one big store.

promoted well with remastered releases, both digital and as deluxe physical packages.

/

all his videos could be up on the site, as promotion for the older albums. live footage for

sale, all his one off songs and soundtrack contributions etc on sale again.

/

he could have 2000 songs on there. he used to say that he wanted the biggest rack in the

recordstore. well, now he could have the biggest online store smile

/

it'll be interesting to see what happens these last 2 months of the year and for the whole

of next year. if there is no remaster by late 2015, we're never going to get anything and

he'll be content to just let his entire discography be an incomplete, out of print puzzle

that no one but longtime fans can make heads or tails of. it would be a shame when it

could all be so much better and more respectful to his legacy.

Maybe he doesn't care about being much bigger. Some are acting as if Prince has never been at the top, he's been there and done that, remember. Maybe that's not what's important to him concerning his music and legacy. Prince is a very smart guy, I'm sure he knows what You Tube has to offer and is all about, and maybe he just doesn't care. We've all have known Prince long enough to know that Prince does just what he wants, when he wants to, and always his way, and I don't think anyone's going to change that.

The point about YouTube, for Prince and any artist who values their own sh*t is that, by a ba*tard clever ruse, Google has been using its users, posting videos, to become a bigger entertainment corporation than all of the entertainment companies combined. While this might have 'slipped past' users (who are legally responsible for uploads while Google collects on stock earnings and advertising), it hasn't slipped by Prince. It may be 'Google Genius' but they ain't getting his.
I totally support him.

you're entirely right, but its how everyone under 35 find their music......prince could get an upfront payment from youtube probably in the MILLIONS if he really wanted to.

I wonder why so many famz continue to invent these idiotic reasons/explanations to avoid admitting Prince makes incredibly dumb decisions. Do they really expect to one day be rewarded by being hired by Prince?

.

Seriously, there are tons of artists out there who document each tour with live albums and live DVDs, whose concerts are broadcast on TV, etc... and yet they continue to draw huge crowds and command large fees.

.

You wanna know what I thought after seeing video of a Prince concert? "I gotta go watch him live." Because it was just so goddamn awesome. (But yeah, that might not have been the case if it had been a bland ten minute long cover of a 1970s disco tune with a bald woman yelling "put your hands up"" every five seconds.)

I agree - obviously. Who wouldn't. It just makes sense. However, playing devils advocate:

Reasons not to be on Youtube:

1) Extra work. Someone has to curate the channel. Has to dig up decent quality footage from the vault and cut it, edit it. Image quality and audio will be poor due to the tech available at the time. VHS looks so dated now.

2) Prince makes no real money from it. Not immediately anyway.

3) Once you put things on the line, they have no re-sale. No compilation DVDs. Your videos are just out there for free, forever. So if he needed a quick easy million dollars he could release a music video set, get paid for old material. If all that content is on Youtube... who'd buy it?

4) New content takes time and money, there would be no return on his investment in any new videos unless they were made very cheaply.

5) The only reward for uploading your content: A number of likes, and a bitchload of bitchy comments from strangers.

6) Regardless of what gets uploaded fans will never be happy. Tech quality aside - if he uploads a clip it should be a song, if it's a song it should be a show, if it's a show it should have been a different show.

Also - some of the older videos and concerts it'd be easy for the media to rip him to bits. If he ever fell out of favour. Blurred Lines was possibly the biggest hit that ended someones career. It might be wise not to open the vault up completely.

Wthin hours he could upload tens of hours of footage, the legendary aftershows, videos we never knew about... but then it's not in the bank. All the unreleased stuff is his real legacy.

On a similar note they could spice up the 3EG channel by having the girls give a few song lessons or something. Each on their own instrument teaching viewers a couple of songs from their album. But it's time and effort for little reward.
