why are postWB albums always out of print?

Albums like Emancipation, Crystal Ball, Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, LotusFlower/MPLsound, and 20ten are no longer available to buy or download except used ones you can get CD stores or Amazon/eBay.

And I can't find 20ten in Amazon!

Why would a record label order a second batch, when it never sold in the first place!

What's more sad, is how Quickly The Gold Experience went out of print. That album could have been platinum by now

Because Prince wants it that way. His post-WB deals are "P&D" one-off deals with no "catalog" rights.

Cds sales are at the lowest sales ever. There is no need to make a physical form of past catalogue post WB, however making them available for download would be a good idea.

At the rate of declining Cd sales, they might not be making CD's in 10 years.

.

Prince could have easily "taught" his fans to keep buying physical media, especially since they're the generation that supposedly still does that. Instead he made that hard to do, offered a new "experience" each year, sold WMAs that stopped working after a while (and which couldn't be converted to WAVs easily in the first place), sold badly encoded MP3s, etc.

.

Prince only has himself to blame for his declining sales. He showed he didn't give a fuck (also by releasing substandard fare and then not promoting it) and thus his audience followed.

True...Even with his new records....I mean Prince as such a prolific artist could make deluxe versions of his albums with bonus tracks, posters and videos and many fans would buy them...

Instead only a very cheap looking AOA without booklet...

On the other side if he wants it, he can sell his 90s and 00s abums digitally...

Sad that people only got to hear his warners work and planet earth via iTunes....

No 3121, no musicology, no emancipation....

It's not just the physical albums that are out of print but EVERYTHING prince has released ever since TGE (+ all those Paisley Park side project that he's owned since 1994), I mean even the digital releases are "out of print" (unavailable). It seems it's been prince's policy to do this the "hit and run" way ever since he got free from WB and I doubt it has anything to do with sales because it wouldn't have cost him a dime to keep everything available at least digitally in his own online store and/or iTunes/Amazon, and still he chose not to. Obviously he just favours an approach where the music is available for a short moment and then it's up to you to figure out a way to obtain it, second hand for physical releases or illegally for everything else. It sucks if u ask me, but prince is the only person responsible for this.

er

Sometimes I think Prince doesn't release albums because he wants them to be heared, but to get rid of them. Ha! Threw some songs out of the vault so there's room for new ones!

Ah yes, making hundreds of thousands of dollars on an 8 second tibt of white noise. I really believe she's making sales from her music and not her brain dead fans. lol

Seriously? I've been buying up ued copies of copies of old CDs I missed the first time around, and never have to pay more than $10. Even TGE, which sometimes people ask a lot for, was available for $8.99 earlier this year. That was on the high side. I think Lotusflow3r/ MPLSound was $3.50. Love Symbol album about the same.

The mere fact that you can't easily buy them makes them exciting for fans.

I agree with all of this.
The buck stops with Prince on all of it.

This still doesn't explain Taylor's success, though.
