Absolutely. The Flesh and the first two CDs of BFTP2 are both significantly better than anything new Prince has released for a long time. If they were released as they were originally recorded and NOT re-recorded like he did with "Tick Tick Bang" on "Grashitty Bridge" or "Extra Loveable" where he put all those damn horns all over the place, and on actual CDs and not downloads (I refuse to pay for "air").....hell yes, I'd buy it. This is the kind of stuff I've been wanting. . I want 1978-1984 stuff though. None of that jazz mess like "The Flesh". And as for the artsy fartsy stuff after he changed his style after "Purple Rain", shared downloads from friend to friend of that type of stuff is fine with me because, a lot of the unrleased stuff from that era, I don't care for. But 1978-1984 stuff, I'd most definitely buy. Bring it on and bring on lots of it. Andy is a four letter word.

"The Flesh" is not jazz. It's instrumental pop/rock/funk.

Well, whatever the hell it is, it sounds like Doc Severinson and Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" band. Andy is a four letter word.

"I refuse to pay for air" ... wow, what a dumb thing to say.... like you're happy to pay for plastic, if it's CDs you receive? Nothing to do with the content.
That's an unbelievably obtuse point of view. But then that fits with your distate of the 'jazz mess' as you label The Flesh, much as a person without ears might, or your disdain for anything that isn't in the style of Purple Rain. You're part of the problem. Time to change that.

Would pay for anything officially released if he's singing. Don't care for The Flesh and things like that though. RIP

Who in their right mind would pay for a download when you can easily get a download for free? If you simply want the song in your computer, you can rip it in there from the CD and still have something physical to show for what you've spent your money on. Hell, I always bought vinyl back in the day because I found it damned ridiculous to buy a cassette when you could buy the album and make a cassette yourself and then have both. True enough, in this day and age, you can always make a CD from the download but you've only got something "homemade" with no actual physical product to show for your money. . And who the hell asked for more Purple Rain? Hell, I'd settle for some more Dirty Mind, Controversy, and 1999 too. I'm not one of those pop fans that discovered him with Little Red Corvette. My ass is a funk fan that's been around since I Wanna Be Your Lover. As for the jazz stuff, if I want jazz music, I'll buy it from a jazz artist. I don't have to like each and every little single song Prince makes to still be a fan. I'm a fan, not a fam. . . . [Edited 11/13/14 10:18am] Andy is a four letter word.

I would absoutely pay for any recordings of unreleased Prince material, without hesitation. It would have to be done correctly, meaning:

absolutely, but it would need to be an upfront deal.
No subscriptions and you will get, would have to be like Itunes Rarieties sets that Smashing Pumpkins and REM did.
Transaction then immed delivery of goods.
I got burnt with crystal ball, npgmc etc.
I would love to see the vault get it's due.

I wish Prince could see this thread

unfortunately - the only way for the vault material to be released in an ordered/structured way is without Princes' involvment - but alas prince will not allow that, so i don't see the entire archive being released any time soon.

Fark oath I would!
I used to buy the same release 10 times, just because it was made in a different country!!!
No different to this. | |

Not really. There are bands that make almost every live show available to the fans and from what I understand, the production costs associated are pretty high compared to the level of interest in each release. It's not a big revenue generator for most. It's hard enough to get people to pay for studio albums these days.

No, you're thinking of "Tricky" about 2:47 in. And yeah, that was a bad sound. I'm glad he didn't pursue it further.

It would make the most sense to add these outtakes to remastered albums.

You know what's sad? It's 2014 and fans are still asking the same fucking question. . As has been established numerous times over the past two decades: yes we would pay for official releases of previously bootlegged material. But the one time we could and did, we got screwed. . Oh that's a 'hell yes'. . I'd be more than happy to make payment to Prince for unreleased material, notably, for the latest bootlegs, whether they were in my possession already or not. An artist deserves to be fairly compensated for their work and I get a LOT of bang for my buck with his songs. . Of course, it's his right to withhold songs from circulation; compensation by fans for previously bootlegged work does not make up for his music being stolen and exploited by bootleggars in the first place, and then passed around with no regard for his feelings on the matter. But I hope one day he warms to the idea of sharing more music from the Vault with us, which could generate some additional revenue and positive buzz, and it would help him build an even stronger rapport with his fan base. (Plus I'd love to see P. and his fans working together to put bootleggars out of business.)

I don't see it happening. Prince waited too long. He's been promising and not delivering the better bootlegs for 18 years now. In that time, the fanbase has become conditioned to just getting the shit for free. The really good shit too, not like, the down years. If Prince were to release it, most would just bitch and moan about sound quality or pricing, and then do what they always do: Get the shit for free. And then brag about how great it is! Forbidden fruit is always sweeter...

I don't think I could complain about the sound quality if he released them NOW, along with the remastered albums (so they match). I would consider it the definitive release, much like I consider 1998's Crystal Ball to be the real versions.

Duh! Have you been asleep for the past few decades? Of course we will pay, but only if there is no post-production, no editing, etc. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
