Hah, sorry. I don't know what's already gotten discussed here. I won't spread out too much information myself, because I'm not sure if some of these alternate versions that I've spotted have been circulating (I don't collect all the alternate versions, remixes etc. myself).

There is a previously unheard track called "Kiss Me Quick" from the early-80s doing the rounds. At first I wasn't sure if it was even Prince as it was so discoish (this would be DM / Controversy era), but the vocals do indeed seem to be by him.

Did this come out on a compilation? It seems like we are getting a lot of material from the past these days.

I´ve read every single post on this thread but I´m still not sure which version this is.

Is this the extended instrumental Andre Cymone version where you can hear Wendy and Lisa at the end of the song, but in better quality?

Or is it an extended and better sounding version of the Prince version that´s been circulating for at least 25 years?

it is 11.38 min. it's the Prince version in better soundquality, if I had to make a guess I'd say it's an 8 when it was a 5 on Purple Rush vol 7, which was the previous best sounding version, all imo of course.

The treble and bass enhancements on some of the new leaks make it hard to say if the source material used really was that much better than on the versions we've heard before. What I really don't understand is the need to use compression on tracks that already have a reduced dynamic range due to the sound quality degration resulting from the tapes.

Of course, this one is clearer than the version I've been listening to for ages. There's more detail and some things that weren't that audible before are easier to hear properly, but often the tinkering changes the feel of the track too much. Just compare the version of "Toy Box" on Blast From The Past with what's on the Sheila E. record - it really is overdone.

Yeah, I'm afraid this is the case. Unfortunately.

I'm really glad that the new outtakes are out, but getting also what was on the original source tapes out there would be even nicer. Or at least something that has smaller changes applied to the source material.

Probably true. there's a slightly noticable edit. Like a few seconds been edited out of the song. Almost unnoticable since it's at a section that is repeating anyway, but it just sounds slightly off. Other than that, it's quite good.

one could probably do a little "audio photoshopping' and edit in the omitted seconds from previous versions to make it complete.

The snippet I heard sounds like it's been tweaked EQ wise by someone in a bit of a cackhanded way I'm unable to tell if it's an issue with the fuller version that some have.
