The Residents Okay apologies if this has been up before but I haven't seen it before.
I've come across a track called the residents Can anyone give me some information about it or when it was recorded...that is assuming it's original. Thanks - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I do know that the Residents (yes, a great little band) did cover "1999" at one point. They used to post monthly mp3's on the "Ralph America" site and this was one of them. In fact, it may have been something they did once a month during the year 1999. Anyway, they eventually released a CD through Ralph's website with all the tracks on it, including "Nineteen Ninety-Nine". The album is called "dot.com", in case you ever want to get it. But if you've never heard the Residents before, BEWARE! The Eyeballs are not even remotely similar to The Purple One...

Hmmm. If you're into some of the "avant purple" moments Prince has dropped on us from time to time...the strange little back-masky, weirdo-screamy, "what-the-#$)%@-was-that?!" touches we've all come to know and love, there might be a familiar appeal to some of the Residents' music, particularly their old stuff. Some of it's even a little funky - check out "Diskomo" or "Moisture". True, it's a whole 'nother genre, but the spark of creativity certainly shows some overlap in terms of insane genius...depending on the openness of mind, anyway... Just sayin'.

i actually really dig The Residents' version of 1999 - it's basically the only version i can stand to listen to anymore...
from the one album i have (their most recent, "demons dance alone"), i gotta say that anx is right (DUH): insane genius at work. this is the kinda cd that took me...jeez, i dunno, a month or so to really appreciate...and everytime i listen still, it seeps more into my marrow. y'know, kinda like prince's wreckas used to back in the day. if you haven't heard anything by The Rezzies, you may have still seen them - those weird dudes with the eyeball-heads. check out www.residents.com for some interesting info, or if you just wanna hear some mp3 samples, go to www.astropitch.com and scroll down until you see "Click here for link to mp3's" - and while yer at it, download yerself a copy o' that live cover of cracker's "eurotrash girl" by chicks on speed feat. miss kitten - i don't think you'll be sorry. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
