At 13 to 14 I probably would have. I was listening to some very frothy and low quality pop music when I was 13 at least, like Kylie Minogue, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Roxette and Milli Vanilli.
.
At 14 I grew balls and got into pop rap like Young MC, MC Hammer, Rebel MC, Redhead Kingpin and some better rap music like Ice T, Public Enemy and NWA.
.
Finally at 15 I discovered Prince and ditched frothy pop and pap rap forever!!!
.
Going back to music I liked when I was 11 - Whitney, Mel and Kim, Madonna, I would have liked Boytrouble more then.
.
And you guys are right, most buyers of Prince music are likely to be 35 - 45, but spread across all groups from 14 to about 65, but still your average 40 year old will not care for Boytrouble but dig a song like This could be us, Clouds, Way back home, Another Love and Fixurlifeup - mature Prince music.
Hmm, well fortunately the world doesn't operate within your narrow and stereotyped parameters! I'm 42 and really like Boytrouble (for what it is - but it's not a "serious" track), so your final assumption is quite incorrect. I also produce what some refer to here as "young music styles" (whatever that means? Musical styles can and are enjoyed by all ages - in fact, the only style I can think of that deserves that label is nursery rhymes!) - I make techno, drum'n'bass, dubstep etc....all sorts. But how can this be? I'm 42!! People of all ages enjoy all sorts of music. We have children dancing at some of our festival gigs.and the oldest fan I've met is 68! The world doesn't work on generalisation -it thrives on diversity and it's a far more colourful and varied place than you seem to see. Mind you, I had to stop taking you that seriously when you said you "grew balls and started to listen to...MC Hammer"!!! [Edited 11/12/14 17:05pm]
Im 42 too and loving listening/reading/singing nursery rhymes with my two year old. So you cant even rule that out either. |

I have a 15-month-old boy at home and both my wife and I are loving learning nursery rhymes and playing them to him on the piano. I just meant that I think it's the only music I can think of that deserves the "young style" label |

As I wrote in another tread I in my opinion boytrouble is the best use of an outside rapper in any of Princes recordings to date. For me it's also maybe not the best but surely the most funky and most fun track on the whole of PlectrumElectrum.
For those who like Boytrouble too, it i strongly suggest to listen to Lizzo's latest disc Lizzobangers. Also check out her videos on youtube. She's quite an extraordinary artist! try: https://www.youtube.com/w...QaRQe86suA

I like Boytrouble a lot better than most of the song you've mentioned... And about the jabbering in Spanish, two things: a) why does it bother you? And b) that's not Spanish...
I'm absolutely, totally, with you. |

I like the groove of the bass and drums, it is pretty funky and would not have been a bad choice for a Appolonia or Vanity 6 album. Yeah, the rapping isn't great, but the song is fun and funky and better than some other tunes on PE imho.
Absolutely! |
