I'm into it. First time in a while he has done something that reminded me of the Black Album, and not just the computerized low voice.

I'ts not great, and it doesn't suck.
The beginning and the ending of The Gold Standard can rival any of the 80's Prince funk songs. Yes I've said it.
It's the middle and the chorus that ruins the melody of the song... If Prince gave this song another shot and recorded it in a different way I'm sure it would be a favorite among many... It has that Black Album vibe to it.

. Indeed. It's Prince trying to imitate the sound of The Time mixed with the sound of The Black Album. It's ersatz funk. It is a typical case where Prince tells something when he should show, but he cannot; he's forgotten how. © Bart Van Hemelen

JoshuaWho said: Is it just me or does it get funkier everything time you play it? I think it's you. Or me. Anyway, I think it gets less funky everytime I play it. It's one of those songs I loved on the first listening and then thought...nah...it's not really that great... [Edited 11/3/14 14:20pm]

I like it more than I dislike it. Especialy the "crazy amazing" line. Other than that I'm just not too hyped on it.

Put on the headphones and concentrate on the complex horn lines and how they are woven through the song. THen go back and dig the stank ass bass synth. Classic Prince craftsmanship: tight, seamless, and razor sharp. It is the kind of tune that true Prince aficionados never get tired of hearing because only Prince has ever been able to make a funk tune like that.

This is one of those funky "New Dance" type of Prince jams. It put me in the mind of: Cindy C or La, La, La, He He, Hee Detroit, What's Happening? What Color Is Your Money 2Day?

It has that Black Album vibe to it. That nails it, except I'm more positive. The beginning and end are hella funky. The chorus has a slight cringe factor, but it's mostly good. The falsetto and yelps are great. Lyrics are a bit lame in spots (we've heard them before, when it was called musicology). "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

The diverse tastes of the Prince fan base rears its ugly heads on this track.
I'm in the "LOVE IT" camp.
Best song on the album, IMO. Loved it on first listen. Classic Prince funk.
To quote my girlfriend "This is MUCH MUCH better than most of that wierd junk from Prince you usually play."
She liked "U Know" also.

I dont like the layered vocal chorus. Should have kept it more raw and less polished. Also dont think there is enough bass considering the album as a whole is very bass heavy. I do like the song though, just not sure it fits on AOA.

Has Black Album feel in the beggining a Lovesexy feel at the end, but in the middle it just gets lost...

I've stated from the beginning that
I liked Plectrum much better than AOA...so many filler songs on it. I like "way back home"and "time" ..The rest does nothing for me. [Edited 11/4/14 4:44am] BOB4theFUNK
