Because according to the World Album charts U2 had the greatest week sales so far selling over 150,000 copies in the first week.
So regardless if they gave it away for free... People are still buying the album, or those "free" copies are counted as sales??

huh AOA is up this week in billboards sales chart
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
We will see the numbers 2mrw, so far according to hits daily double there wasn't a "dramatic" increase however there is still 40% left to calculate.

whats not true, that off the 60000 some odd cd's released each year both placed top 10 ,, whats not true about that?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes they both placed in the Top Ten for 1 week.
PE fall off, and commercially it FLOPPED.
AOA still is short of 200,00 world wide.
PE won't pass 70,000 world wide.
U2 SOLD regardless of their free give aways 250,000 in it's 2 weeks.
AOA doesn't hold a steady pace on the charts like other artists that have had their albums for months. However we will see the results of the SNL performance tmrw when the charts are published.

And their albums suck | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
HUH AOA been top 50 since it came out..so thats holding steady unless u have a different definition of steady
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes I do... AOA shouldn't be at the bottom of the TOP 50 charts in only it's 4 week, while other artists whose albums indeed suck still have a consitant sales position week after week being on way longer than AOA.

I'm saying why is the 23,000 in the us labelled as dismal everyone has it here so a lot aren't going to buy it plus they are doing not form of promo here till mid 2015' all the promo they have done has been on uk tv which was the right thing to do "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Here is your answer...
It's at 49, last week was 48. Sold 6,758 +19%.
PE still out of the TOP 50.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Sadly the performance didn't have the same impact as other artists and Maroon 5, they sold much more...
I don't think PE had any increase it's been out of the charts for so long.
AOA deserves to be GOLD at least, it's a good album, his best in a long time...

Doesn't this reflect sales from last week BEFORE the SNL bump? A 19% increase is a positive sign and now that U Know is getting spun on the radio I would think that would have a positive impact. Unless I am wrong, I think the increase will show up in next week's chart position. [Edited 11/5/14 3:16am] All good things they say never last...

Indeed, the performance will impact the charts for the next week. The increase in sales is only due to the saturday evening and the sunday sales on the internet! November and december sales are highly competitive, AOA should stay in the top 50 next week, with a slight increase.

It is gonna be tough to keep AOA on the charts in the holiday season, this is far from a "gift" type cd, generally what will sell during this time is the older artists like Streisand and holiday stuff and best of's. And then there are the last minute December releases as the labels call them "dumping" at the last chance to score some holiday money, this is when back in the day artists like Bow Wow and Mary J always had a record out. This year some of the late december releases, are from X factor girls, FIFTH HARMONY which will probably score some numbers. Also November releases from the Foo Fighters should score bigger numbers.
On a side note WB or PRINCE or both really dropped the ball on PURPLE RAIN 30 year reissue, as now acts like Tears for Fears and Bryan Adams are lined up to get their cds out in November, also that QUEEN compilation worldwide is looking massive, maybe not big in america but worldwide that album is gonna be huge. Sad to say i think AOA is gonna fade into obscurity "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Yea I agree. AOA is a good album the best album from Prince in many years, it deserves to have more longevitiy. It's too bad the Purple Rain reissue won't be anytime soon...

I have no idea who AOA was aimed at. It is just not a good record period. The better reviewers didnt condecend and told it like it is, the rest were condecending and sad if they really think it's recommendable to their readers. It is not aimed at music entuisiasts, and certainly not at casual listeners. It was aimed at some strange fringe still living in the 90's than loves terrible production values and cheesy flourishes best I can tell. On the other hand, if this is the kind of music that Prince feels deeply about, then great, he was able to put it put there and make the hardcore fanatics that will fawn over everythig very happy. If not, then he should quit pandering and only release the music that he is truly passionate about. That scenario would make the most people happy, especially the artist

Let me ask u then... Are Planet Earth, Lotusflow3r, 20Ten better records than AOA?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What is going with the Purple Rain remaster?! Warners and Prince are CRAZY if they don't release it soon! This is the perfect time for it!! In a few weeks, holiday shoppers will be out in the stores and I can't think of a more exciting "stocking stuffer" than the PR remastered set.

The list of current upcoming releases till February was released and there is no Purple Rain remaster on the list.

* I'm amazed at how so many folks are so unable to see beyound their own tastes that if they don't like something then it must be because Prince is not "truly passionate about" it. Wow! That...just...wow. So, regardless of other people liking it, if you don't like AOA and PlecElec then that means that Prince is not passionate about it. That's some amazing logic. How does that work exactly?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
How does it work? Well, start by reading what I said, not what you want to read.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
... So did the SNL performance have much of an impact on the US sales?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
* The point is what evidence--other than you own dislike of the record--do you have that Prince doesn't feel passionate about AOA? It's one thing to say, "I don't like a record" or "This record is not well-crafted," but I'm amazed at people who make the leap that Prince isn't passionate about something simply because they don't like it. You either like a record or you don't, but the whole "Prince--or any artist--doesn't seem 'inspired" or 'passionate'" line is just a bunch of bs psycho-babble. And, I can't accuse you of this because I don't remember enough of your posts, but that bs psycho-babble is usually by people who, for some reason, need others to validate their dislike of the work. I either like something or I don't like it. Whether or not Prince or anyone else was/is passionate of the work is no real issue because I realize that I would never know his level of passion unless he tells us. (And even that--given Prince's 'double-speak' history--would be suspect.) All I have is the art. So, the notion of Prince not being passionate about AOA has no basis or merit. As such, it's flawed logic. Is it probable, as in anything is probable?--yes. But there is nothing that points to him "not being" passionate about it. So, why raise that issue? For instance, I don't care how passionate Prince was/is about "I Wonder U;" For me, that song was DOA. Thus, I don't care about his passion about that song; I just desire never to hear it again because it kills my passion for life.

The album AOA stayed in the top 10 album R&B billboard charts for the first 5 weeks in a row. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Oh yes they are. AOA sucks so bad, I don't want to listen to it again. But all the albums you mentionend get regular spins. I like not every song on it, but a lot. [Edited 11/6/14 22:20pm]

Surprised anyone considers Planet Earth to be better album...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
there's not one song on Planet Earth that's as shitty as Art Official Cage, which I consider the worst shit Prince has ever released.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah you pretty much can say that PR reissue is not going to happen, at least not in the near future. Both parties dropped the ball on this, no blame, but just missing the boat on it. Maybe WB felt it would be too much at once, maybe PRINCE does not want to deliver certain things, who knows. Im just happend with the Re-issues coming from the artists that were not dropping the ball, Tears for Fears and Bryan Adams to name 2 and just a side note both have new records too, so not sure what Prince's issue is.
