The only real problem with the performance was that the singing was questionable. "Clouds" sounded messy, as neither Prince nor Lianne was singing the song like on the record and the two voices just didn't mix together that well. Hannah's background vocals were off-key during "Another Love" - she was playing the drums and apparently wasn't able to pull of doing the vocals that well at the same time. They should have just made Shelby's singing in the background louder (say what you want about her, but she can sure hit the right notes despite how bad the monitoring might be).

well, i have just got up here in the uk and watched it about three times now on the web, and i really enjoyed the whole performance. Some of the people on here are just nit picking with certain aspects of it. Overall it was a very good performance, that worked. And just having a quick look on twitter, it seems to have gone down well with most, so im happy!

So, we obviously saw Prince, 3rdeyegirl, Josh, Liv, and Liana. But, who was the other guy on rhythm guitar (behind Prince's keyboard setup) during AnotherLove?

Hmm. I missed that. Who could it have been?

Im guessing that studio guy we saw at the Yahoo release party who showed us some studio material from 3EG.

What tv network does SNL air on? Is it NBC? I'm gonna have to go look for it. I have been so busy with balancing my schedule for the next few weeks in November that I lost track of time. For the first week I will be in Ala Moana hotel doing the information desk. During the second week I will do bathroom patrol/ greetings for the tour busses at either Chinaman's Hat beach or Sandy beach. Can't figure out which yet. I don't even know what direction those are in. lol I guess I won't be doing airport greetings since no one got back to me. But that's okay, I'm already quite busy, every single day of the week.

Clouds was wack. It bugs me that he still puts up pretty girls who can't sing.

If you're claiming Lianne La Havas can't sing you better check her out on YouTube.

yeah. p really takes it to the next level! i love the addition of a 3rd guitar player. i'm really glad that he keeps pushing that band. i think these girls inspire him not only music-wise but fasion-wise too (i love those glasses together with that afro... big!). now the band is a big family! LOVE IT!

Dull performance. It wasn't 'bad' but just... dull, servicable, okay. 3rdEyeGirl have run their course. I don't know why he has kept this band so long, it's not like him. Of all the bands he chooses to keep he goes with this? neutral His afro looked terrible as well, you could see right through it.

I might sound overly negative but I really don't mean to be. I honestly think it's the band. They limit him and the material

There isnt anything wrong with the band, you cant really say they limit his material, when it was pretty much the bands material that he played? lol 3EG managed to play through all his hits in the Hit N Run shows so its not really limiting anything IMO.

My 2p's worth is that Vocally clouds wasnt great, they have work to do both Lianne and Prince.

Good perfomance in all for me though, even if it is a 3-4 weeks late from whenPromo was much needed.

The man is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance. I hate that Marz tune on the album but the power of the live performance gave it a real punch. A brilliantly flowing jam. I would have liked to hear something more off AOA, Way Back Home would have been fantastic, but no mind, judged on what it was...it was his best TV performance in years. Pissed all over the likes of those embarrassingly bad Arsenio shows in the 90s.
After years in the wilderness I can say I feel like a Prince fan again.

Did you also notice he looked at someone off stage (left side) when that happened and he did the same when he sang "fired" during Anotherlove. Must have been his guitar tech over there. Fucking hilarious. falloff

Alan Leeds:

Prince on SNL - I fully realize I'm opening up a can of worms here, will probably regret saying this tomorrow, but I'm so disappointed by someone who has so much more to offer than mixed agendas that get in the way of his usually brilliant music.
I love his lifelong devotion to promoting women in rock but the appearance on SNL proved only that a girl band can play clichés, the talented Lianne La Havas can be under-utilized and Prince is no Alice Smith. In trivializing Smith's song has Prince embraced Alice's right to cover one of HIS songs? File this appearance under trying to do too much and ending up not doing much at all. Many, many years ago Prince asked me why he wasn't taken more seriously as a musician and I suggested he leave the bells and whistles home and tour in jeans and turtleneck, placing all the focus on the music. He sarcastically replied, "what? And look like you?". Back then he was probably right and I was naïve. BUT two decades later and two decades older, I would suggest the same thing. Leave the costumes and cartoon logos to the kids and give the music the mature respect it deserves. A shame..........a master lowering the bar is never fun to watch."

I'm the same with Marz - don't particularly like it but thought it was ok last night. Would have been good to get full versions of Clouds and Anotherlove as I thought they were great but it's good to see him showcasing new tracks instead of older stuff.
.
I know it's typical Prince logic but can't help wonder why he didn't do a few of these TV shows round the album releases.

Leeds is right. Prince did lower the bar last night, even though it was already lowered since he started playing with 3rdEyeGirl. Donna and Hannah are beautiful and lovely but as musicians they are far from being in Prince's league.

The only bad thing from last nights performance was the horrible rendition of Clouds. Marz also kind of felt a bit lost in the mix.... but Another Love was more than decent.

I see no problem with 3rdeyegirl and would be happy for Prince to stick with them.

That Lianne Le Tone Deaf Havas on the other hand.... she was fucking dreadful.

True, Lianne was totally flat, but consistently, so it might have been a monitoring issue, perhaps she wasn't hearing herself properly. It happens often. I certainly wouldn't call her tone deaf.
